Default Sub for under $400

I'm looking to add another sub to my set up. I currently have the set up listed in my signature. I was thinking about adding another Polk 505 but figured I would see if anyone knew of any deals on a better sub for $400 or less. I can get the 505 for $229 so the performance of the suggested sub needs to be quite a bit better to justify an increase in cost. I am also tempted to hold off another year and get something with a bit more oomph but please keep your suggestions to subs under $400 for the moment.

Elemental Designs A2-300

This is the best bang for your buck sub out there right now, and only costs $350. I own this sub and am continuously blown away by it. If you couple this with a 505, you'll have one badass setup!

I would have to agree with tbizzle. I have two elemental designs subs and they're quite good quality for the money paid. I have tried to get my brother to buy the a2-300 and he said when he can he will. I have the "slightly" bigger a3-300's and have been blown away.

+1. My 2nd eD A2-300 sub is on it's way now. IMO, you can't beat it for the price.

The eD is definitely a good choice. I'll throw in another option for you...THIS Cadence 15" sub for $400 shipped. Its gotten a lot of good feedback over on avsforum, and the reviews I've read on it confirm that its a heck of a performer.

Yeah, I considered it awhile back. I ended up going a little higher end, but this is one of the best budget subs out there along with the eD. It gets under 20hz like the eD and heck...its a 15" sub! Apparently its pretty musical too from everything I've read. They also offer a 12" for $300.

Looks like a decent sub, but I only see it going down to 25hz?

That's a pretty sweet deal. I'm going to be going the higher end route as well, and building 2 custom 15" subs and powering them with some really nice amps. Otherwise I'd probably grab 2 of those, or 2 MFW-15's when they have another one of their 2 for $800 sales.

It starts to roll off at 25hz, but its still audible down into the teens according to THIS review. That's very good performance. There was a review that posted the measurements of both the 12" and the 15" that I can't find at the moment, but the output is actually pretty similar to the eD in the lower end. The 12" actually rolls off faster below 25hz but the output is actually a bit higher. Of course the flatter response of the 15" is much nicer.

I did forget that the MFW-15 is on sale for $399 right now...the Diamond finish. Freight is $143 though, but its still a great deal now that they have amp issue fixed.

I decided to go with another Polk 505 instead because Newegg customer service discounted it to $200 for me (I order a lot of stuff from them) to say thanks for being a great customer. Dual 505's here I come. I'm so excited.

Congrats, you'll definitely have a kickass setup! You should post some pics up when it comes in
