Help with PS3 Upscaling! - Blu-ray Forum

Can someone please tell me if it's possible to upscale PS3 games to 1080P? It seems that games that are only 720P cannot be upscale to 1080P. Am I missing something? Please help!

Most PS3 games are 720P so there isnt much you can do there.

Metal Gear Solid 4 and Call of Duty 4 are a few that can go upto 1080P.

Just check the back of the game, it'll say what resolutions are supported, but like previous poster said, most are 720p

I wouldn't expect to see too many PS3 games displayed at 1080p resolution for this generation of videogames. Developers have to make sacrifices somewhere.

like almost all of my 360 games are 1080p..

My PS3 is always set to 1080p, do I need to change it to 720p to get the most out of the 720p games or does it make no difference?

So, can you force the 1080P on a 720P game? I tried to do it but it kept going back to 480P and the PS3 for some reason did not let uncheck the 480P box. Any suggestions?

Can't be done. The PS3 will output 720p games at either 720 or 480. Your receiver and/or TV could possibly upscale that, however.

Most (all?) Xbox 360 games are not rendered at 1080p resolution but at lesser resolutions. The Xbox does have a dedicated internal scaling chip that outputs 1080p though to make it appear their games are at 1080p. The PS3 does not have a dedicated scaling solution so few developers have implemented an upscaling solution to 1080p for their games.
