Don't know much myself, but I do know that Monster is just over-priced hype. Try www.panamax.com I heard they make quality products. Also www.APC.com makes some good ones.

Actually, Monster makes very good power conditioners with good surge protection and filters. It's the cable division that is largely overpriced.

Monster makes some decent stuff, but I'd only advise buying it on sale. If you find it deeply discounted, it can be reasonable. I only buy their power conditioners and source my cables from other manufacturers.

Default Belkin Pure AV

i would definitely not go with monster unless you don't mind the prices, their name is what you are paying for (even if their products are solid, which they are, i personally think they are overpriced). i would strongly suggest belkin's PURE AV line.

i've purchased numerous belkin power conditioners/surge protectors and they have all been fantastic and well priced, just look on amazon. i'm not sure about other companies but all belkin's i've purchased come with lifetime warranties (monster is probably the same). belkin will even give you an upgrade free if their product fails and a comparable replacement isn't available.

if you want a space saving (i.e. slim) power conditioner for under 100, i'd go with a PF-30:
http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-PureAV-...3490128&sr=8-4

if you want a strip, check this one out:
http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Home-Th...490128&sr=8-11

they both cover up to $300,000-$350,000 worth of equipment.

hope this helps, best of luck with whatever brand you end up choosing.

This is true. If you cant do a true power conditioner, i would go with the monster strip...

I would go with the:

Panamax M10-HT Pro

or

Panamax M8-HT

Better product in my opinion.

The panamax M10HT is only $68 on amazon! I saw it the other day and i'm thinking of getting one. I need a slim strip like that one. Not bad for the price!

I can never let a post like this go by without throwing FURMAN into the mix.

I trust FURMAN with well over $10,000.oo worth of guitar gear and they have my back wherever I go.

Check it out, if you are not into it, then I would recommend the Panamax from the dude above me.

Stear clear of Monster.

Enjoy your rig,

My favorite question to answer in store...Do you have a dedicated audio system or a standard htib? if you have a standard htib and are going with monster, save a few bucks and go with any series that has stage 1 protection. It cleans out your A/V noise and protects you from your power spikes/surges/brown outs/etc, but it keeps everything kind of on the same circuit so that your video noise feeds into your audio and vice versa. If you have a stand alone AVR and speakers ( which I obviously recommend ) then you would want something with stage 2 power. Same as above, but puts Audio and Video on 2 seperate circuits, and also has T2 technology, which shows a voltage meter and sends out feelers in the line to detect any abnoramlities. If so, it shuts down safely, protecting your HT system AND your power conditioner from harm.
If you do stage 1, go with the 950 unit. If you want stage 2 and can't go with the actual shelf type setup, then the mk1000III reference setup is a quality buy for only $50 more. I'm at Circuit City and we have plenty of them available for free shipping online, as unless you are coming into my store you probably will talk to a salesperson that has absolutely no idea how awesome/beneficial/necessary power conditioners are. hope this helps.

Here is a review by Audioholics of the Monster HTS-3500, which is the predecesor to the 3500 Mk. II that I use in my home theater room. For those of you familiar with Audioholics reviews, you'll know they are very thorough. If you search around, you can find great deals online. The signal improvement they deliver is well worth it if you have any interference or noise in your signal path.

You can also check out the APC C10...

The Audioholics review rates it 5/5 for performance and 5/5 for value!

It sells for 99.49$ here

But for the price difference, I would definitely get the APC H15 for $169.49 instead

Nice post. For those of us who are still learning about this aspect of HT, this was helpful.

what everyones biggest mistake in this aspect is they leave there opinion in it... "i think monster is overpriced." i think "apc is good"... etc. apc makes power conditioners for COMPUTERS> panamax doesnt carry the joul levels or line conditioning seperation like monster. i have the monster 2400hd conditioner. 2700 joules..versus 600 joules on panamax... separate audio, video and HD TV filters... meaning theres less distortion or "noise" coming fromt he products due to electrical seperation. like wise... a $75k-$250k replacement policy for any electrical damage for life isnt bad either. why would one buy a product that guarantees your computer... when your putting your tv on it.. ie... not covered... not setup for different electrical demands of your hometheater... monster isnt too pricy for life time guaranteeing no electrical damage to your products. mine is $299 reg price at circuit city. if you catch a deal... buy 3 monster products and get $50 off... you could buy a 2 screen cleaners... and the center... and save 50 bux. everyone needs a screen cleaner....

next time please just let stats, reputation, and performance do the talking. you wouldnt compare a ferrari to a cadillac elderado... and claim the eldorado is better bc its cheaper... so why skimp on something you use way more then a car.

Eventually, you'll find that Monster fanboyism won't get you far or win very many friends around here. But I suppose you'll find that out in due time.

As far as line conditioning/surge protection, Panamax makes excellent products that I would choose any day over Monster. So does Belkin. They both have products with comparable joule ratings, warranties, etc. at a significant savings versus Monster.

I'd be greatly surprised if those artists were not compensated for any endorsements. Dr. Dre clearly has an arrangement: http://www.monstercable.com/press/vi...sp?Article=158
