Default Questions on Yukikaze

Have anybody bought the boxset for this anime?? How's the HD on this thing. I read some reviews and some of them were disappointing. and such.

I dont know if I should spend over $100 on it or not.

It's upscaled from SD since that's how it was animated, so it's not going to look very good. It will still look slightly better than DVD since professional upscaling is better than real-time upscaling done in players or TVs, and it will of course sound better with lossless audio. But I'd only get it if you were a huge fan of the series.

I bought it on Blu-ray, it looks pretty good but the only drawback was it was in fullscreen, not widescreen. WTF is up with that! If I would of known that I would of not spent over $100 on this... The series itself was alright, kind of boring.

I wish Bandai would bring the Macross series over, I would be all over that.

There's multiple reviews for this set on the web that mention this, you could've done a google search or something before buying. And yes 4:3 was quite common for anime OVAs up until just a few years ago.

Not very likely for the time being, as Harmony Gold thinks they own the rights to everything Macross in the US and have threatened to sue anyone else who tries to bring it over.

Are you serious?? That's messed up, is that the reason why Macross Zero and the new series called Macross Frontier aren't being released here! I really wish Japan would start adding English subtitles to their anime movies out in Japan, I would of loved to buy a bunch of them out there...

Yeah, Harmony Gold even went so far as to threaten legal action against internet shops selling import Macross toys a few years ago (it didn't work for the most part, though). There was also a dispute in Japan years ago that resulted in divided rights, I don't know why it could affect overseas licensing but it's a distinct possibility. You can probably find more details by searching at animenewsnetwork.com .

okay all I can say is what a bunch of f*cking assh*les!!! Harmony Gold are so damn greedy, they've released Robotech so MANY times it's getting sickening. I doubt they would jump board on Blu-ray knowing how frickin' stingy and greedy they are...

Thanks for the info, I wonder if the owner of Macross in Japan is pissed off at Harmony Gold. It just doesn't feel right what they're doing and I can't believe they're succeeding.
