Default Problem with resolution

I have a 46" Sony Bravia and a PS3 with the HDMI cables. The problem is I can't tell the difference between regular DVD's and my Blu Rays. Blu Rays on demo at Best Buy look amazing but I'm not getting the same effect at home. What could cause this?

set your resolution to 1080p you probably have it at 480.

make sure the video output on the ps3 is for 1080p, is your tv calibrated? meaning have you adjusted the setting properly, also the tvs at the stores are in torch mode meaning brightness is turned all the way up and so is the backlight. and many of the stores use demo media to make you want to buy.

There should be a big difference with blu v dvd. also your bdp is prolly upscalling so it will give you a picture better then an old dvd player would have. also, i know most of the studios are now making the masters all in HD so some of the newer dvds do look very good. then add upscaling on that and they do look really good, but you should still see a difference with blu. lines will be sharper, better depth, cleaner looking picture, etc.

If you're sitting too far from your screen, you also won't see much of a difference.

I probably should have said that I did check and it is set to 1080P. Also I am only about 8-10" from the screen. The last thing I saw at Best Buy that looked so good was Band of Brothers so it wasn't a demo designed to make the TV's look good. But it was on a much smaller screen (than 46"). Would that be the reason?

But I'm not sure how to calibrate my TV and I assumed the PS3 would already be set to 1080P since it is a Blue Ray player.
