Samsung makes the display panels for Sony as Sony was late to the LCD market. Sony chose to focus on plasma early on and didn't have the r&d or production for LCD panels. That Samsung is a very fine HDTV and I think that the firmware of the two is very similar, so for more bang for your buck in LCD go with the Samsung.

thanks .. just kinda re-assured my original selection ..
one question .... coming from a noob.... the guy in the store is telling me there is no visual difference between the 650-750-850 models...only audio .. if im getting a 5.1 HTiB, should i just get the 650 for less $ ?

first off, never listen to any "guy in the store".

second, each generation of any TV brand always offers something better/different. Progression of technology if you will. To say Samsung keeps selling basically the same TV year after year is a joke.

Third, the guy in the store is probably use to seeing those tv's connected to the same crummy composite cable, and being non-calibrated.

Fourth, don't waste your money on a HTiB.

not a huge gamer anymore ... more pc games ... but i do play madden and ncaa football on consoles often ...
around 2500 total budget for the system ...
i was looking at a sammy 52 inch 750 .... i got a $2050 price quote on that tv and was trying to go cheap on the surround sound
