Default I think I've got a problem.

So I used to have an LCD HD 720 Insignia 32"and my grandparents decided to get a new TV, 50'' panasonic so they they offered me their 37" HD Sanyo. I said yes thinking I'll take the 5 inches and then give my 32" to my mom. Well I looked at the box and it doesn't say where its 1080 or 720 but I just went to my display settings in my PS3 and saw it went from 480p to 1080i. I know 1080p is the best, but if I have 1080i is the quality that much better than the 720p?

6 of one, half-dozen of another...

The TVs are the same resolution (something x 768, most likely). They will both take a 720p or 1080i signal and scale it to your set's native resolution. In the case of the 1080i signal, it will deinterlace it first. You'll have to play with your settings to see if there is a difference between a 720p and 1080i input signal. Of course, if the set(s) accept a 1080p signal, that is what you should send it. This does NOT mean your set will display a 1080p signal. It will scale it to your set's native resolution.

No it won't allow me to go beyond the 1080i I clicked on the 1080p option but it went blank meaning it won't allow it. So the different bettween 720p and 1080i isn't significant? I'm just concerned cause blu-rays say 1080p I didn't want them conflicting or it giving me a lesser picture than a 720p.

What's the model number of the set?
Google should help you determine the specs.

if you still have your other set, try it out and see whats looks better to you. 720p or 1080i. in any case, with the ps3 not all games will scale to 1080i so if the set doesnt support 720 it may be down scaled to 480p. my set is 1080i only and although games that support 1080 look great in 1080i, i know id rather be playing in the games native resolution of 720p.

i assume you're watching a BD? just to make sure, because i know most hd tv shows are 1080i or 720p. make sure you have a 1080p BD in there. sometimes the obvious answere is the right one. although, i have to agree with checking google.

I put in several Blu's and currently the Dark Knight and it looks amazing. A bit more detailed than that of the 720p from what I can tell, but I don't know maybe I'm not fully used to the bigger picture yet.

Like I said earlier, both your old and your 'new' sets are 720p.

so the 1080i and 720p are pretty much on the same level. Gotcha. Well thank you sir. It should'nt hold my blu's back though right? It doesn't look like it would. I think just that its a bit larger I'm having a hard time getting use to it.

Wouldn't have anything to do with the picture settings of color, tinit, contrast, brightness, sharpness, and tone would it? I have them all a little bit more than half.

Thanks to everyone for their insight.

Someone just told me if you have a 1080i its not even worth having a blu-ray player lol. My god. So it should be the equivalent of a 720p.
