Default How to: copy my music CD's to PS3 w/

I apologize if my question has been covered elsewhere on Blu-ray.com forum. I can't find definitive answers in 'search', plus I'm an old-timer as well.

My question:

What's simplest method to copy 475 of my music collection CD's to my PS3 while retaining all the title track names? I upgraded my PS3 H/D to half terabyte so space is no longer a problem using my PS3 as a media hub.

PM responses welcome too.

Thank you in advance.

It can extract the cds itself or if you already have them on a pc you might consider using a media sharing ap like tversity, *I recommend against using windows media player it does a spotty job*

Also a member here sugusted a different software PMS instead of tversity, there post is found here... https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=78031 for media sharing..

Don't think I'd have the patience to insert and wait for the PS3 to rip 475 CD's!

Which is why I offered both ways, of course you could just scoot all those songs on a usb stick... lol..

If your going to use the cd method remeber to set the settings you want first, it should be under settings and specify which codec you want it to use.. it can rip as mp3 ATRAC and something else that escapes me at the moment.

Use a thumb drive. Using tversity takes a LONG time.

Inserting the CD would be best since you can ensure you get the right track titles/group names etc. if you are hooked up to the internet - but the quickest way is external hard-drive.

Have you ripped them to a PC?

I made PCM files and MP3 files of cd's on my PC using Exact Audio Copy and the MP3's have the meta-data (PCM files don't support meta data but I think you can manually add some on the PS3 but that would take forever.)

Anyway... I suggest using a computer to generate the MP3 files with meta-data and then transfer to PS3 using thumb drive or external hard drive.

Either way.... if you want album cover art you still have to assign that manually. You can pull all the art and import it as photos into the PS3 and then go through and assign each to the CD where they go.... sounds like a lot of work but it goes fast.

That would be one hefty usb stick. The biggest I've noticed is 16gb so you'd probably need to rip at well under 100kbps to get them all to fit and would therefore probably sound a bit crap

This I've done before, but the copy process does not display title track names - just Track 1,2,3..etc. Commonsense would have been Sony making it easier for PS3 users to copy CD's and retain title track names. Commonsense is greatly underrated. One would have to be a sadist to manually enter all track information for the copied CD tracks.

Actually they go up to 64gb.. linky
Of course I did not mean all at once.. lol

External Hard drive is the more quicker method...

But you have to remeber fat32..

Is your PS3 connected to the internet? It should automatically download track names for any CD in their rather extensive database, you should be able to upload info if you have a CD they don't. Keep in mind the CD format doesn't include track titles (afaik anyway), so that info has to come from somewhere other than the disc.

I have ripped my small but very esoteric CD collection (mainly anime soundtracks) directly to my PS3 and every one of them has been recognized with full track info (some discs have multiple entries in Japanese and English).

"Have you ripped them to a PC?"

No. Another step and time waster. I just have my PS3, my music CD's.

".... if you want album cover art you still have to assign that manually. You can pull all the art and import it as photos into the PS3 and then go through and assign each to the CD where they go.... sounds like a lot of work but it goes fast."

Not interested in CD cover art on PS3. That's OK for an iPod if one is into that cover art stuff I suppose, but for myself I just want the CD music tracks and corresponding title track names on my PS3. 475 CD's - imagine the length of that shuffle rotation, not unlike the old Sony mega CD changers (sans the clicking/clanking CD carousel function). With this setup I can pick the music/change the music for the restaurant and not worry about repeating the same track during a customers visit. I really dislike those muzak systems many restaurants use. Good food + good music = happy customer.

Okay the ps3 can rip them for you, remeber you need to tell it which codec to use and at what freqency I would say do a sample run 3 times with the different codecs and decided which one sounds better before doing your full run if you know what I mean.

Thanks. Will give this suggestion a look see. This sounds like a simple method even I can understand.

1. Put audio disc in ps3.
2. Hit triangle and hit obtain cd information.
3. Hit traingle again and go to rip cd.
4. wait
5. remove disc
6. repeat

Hows that..

The codec selection and frequence are in the settings part of the ps3 menu if you dont want to muck with that just follow the steps above and have fun.

Thanks. I'll get into the PS3 settings and see where the codec choices are. Isn't there just a codec that BRF people can recommend that works best for copying major label music CD's? I'm not bothering to copy my SACD/XRCD/SHM/etc. I'm just copying regular old CD's.

Hmm well mp3 is more portable as many formats support it,
ATRAC is sonys codec, I believe it has the highest potential frequency choices..

And the other escapes me, for some reason

Thanks dk3dknight. Your instructions could be a template for how to copy music CD's to PS3, just substitute 'import' for 'rip' (I know they're one and the same) and it's perfect. Thanks one and all for replies. Quite helpful this Blu-ray.com forum.

For that price I'd rather have an external drive. The one connected to my PS3 has about 30-40gb of music on it. Was actually going to rip all my CD's to my pc but got bored after I did just 2!
