Default suggestions on covering up ceiling

Hey guys, any suggestions on what I could do or get to cover up my ceiling?
My theater room is painted a light blue but the ceiling is still white. The big hassle/issue/problem for me is that the ceiling is the stupid oldschool popcorn textured kind so painting would be a no go unless I wanted to spend tons of time moving everything outta there and scrapping(no thanks!)
My idea was maybe to go and buy either a dark brown or black fabric and I could cut it to fit my ceilng dimensions and cover it with that.

If you go with a fabric, good choice by the way, stay with a color that will enhance the room, not dominate it. Heavy material is best. Try plaster board as another alternative. Easy to put up and hides multiple of sins. Less of a fire risk also.

Thanks! So what color do you think would accent my light blue walls the best? Some color of brown or black is what I was thinking. Although, I'm not so sure how good the black would look with blue. . My main thing is I want it to be a darkish color so it will help out with the light spill onto my ceiling from my projector and screen. The white ceiling is aweful with this and it lights the room up too much.
Edit: If you look at squirrel101's thread in his pics is blu walls are about the same color as mine and his black ceiling looks good with it. Maybe that would look decent. Thing is my seating is brown, curtains are brown, carpet is brownish and rug has some brown in it. Don't know if brown and black would mix.

You can paint the popcorn ceiling with a heavy nap roller. Go to your local paint center and they can direct you to which one.

As others have said, you can do a fabric covering on your ceiling, like this:

I would go with the black fabric. Also, have you considered a starscape?

Attach some colorful acoustic foam and diffusers to the ceiling. You will make your ceiling more attractive and more importanly, you will create better and higher quality sound. There are a couple of threads in this section on Acoustic Treatments.

if you go with fabric it'll be a lot of work, if you paint it and don,t want flat black then maybe a chocolate color the acoustic panels should'nt be too hard, but the paint would be my fix and the popcorn helps the acoustics versus a flat surface, i used commercial grey carpet on my walls and flat black on the ceiling, but i will also be hanging drapes around the room as well.
