If you don't care about Internet access, the BD-51 is a definite winner. The Panasonics will be in the same price range, with some advantages the BD-51 doesn't have. I bet the BD-51 will drop even further once the new Panasonic, Sony, and even Pioneer's new units are released. |

Well, I sold my BD55 after I got my 51fd. That's how much I like the Pio over the panny and how much I don't care about 2.0 (nothing I've seen yet warrants having it). Got in on the $266 shipped deal at 6ave.
Don't get me wrong, the bd55 is nice, very nice, but the pio is just a little nicer PQ and the audio DAC's are noticeably better. Also it's was a no brainer when I was able to sell my BD55 for twice what I paid for it. People are buying these things like panny isn't going to release any new ones or something. |

I wonder how much more the 51 will drop in price, once all the other new ones are released in April. or if the 51 will become hard to find like the panny35/55.do you all feel pioneer will still continue to provide updates to the 51 in the future?

From what I can see, the newest line coming out are based on pretty much the same hardware as the current line. Over at AVS it's speculated that the new ones are just simply reboxed and lower production cost from the current line.
I wouldn't have bought my 51fd if I felt pio was going to abandon them. Could it drop in price? sure. I can't predict what the price future will hold and at $266, I wasn't overly worried about a major price drop. |

I'm sure they'll support it for at least the next couple of years.

You might ask for a better deal, but I doubt you'll get it - and stock is running low. It's a bad market, best to wait for the new flood of gear to arrive. |

Thanks, Blu-Dog.
You know, I can't even find the Panny BD 35 player. Either sold out or the prices are jacked up. Amazon.com's price is a joke. They want $749.99! ![]() ![]() I think the Pioneer bd51 is the way to go. I guess I'll wait a month when the new units come and the bd51 prices drop. I hope your hunch plays out. Cool. glad it works still.
One thing you'll notice is they item will say "partially shipped" after it ships... It's because the coupon code counts as an item for some reason on their order fullfillment system. Just call them for the tracking after that if it doesn't show online |

I have this player and you can not go wrong at all and for those waiting to see if the price drops I doubt it will go much lower. Keep in omind that this player was like $5-600 when it first came out. Once the future firm ware for DTS MA comes out this player will be almost perfect. Ok load times are not the fastest but they are faster now then when they first came out and I bet this improves as more updates come out. I am guessing these players are going to start going fast as this is a serious piece of BD equipment at a seriously good price.
