Killzone 2 obviously. Resistance 1/2 are great as well.

Killzone 2, Resistance 1 & 2, Resident Evil 5(more like an action game more than horror), COD4, COD:W@W, and Brother in Arms: Hell's Highway

1) killzone2-- sci-fi shooter without aliens, familiar modern weapons, realism induced movement
2) resistance 2 & maybe resistance 1(this is a launch title)-- world war 2 shooter with aliens in an alternate timeline, nazis never existed here. boss battles.
3) fear2-- supernatural shooter continues from the 1st fear, includes mech suit battle play
4) far cry2-- open sandbox world, taking place in africa, exploration, must use transportation due to long traveling time
5) haze-- even though this game is not new, it offers 4 player co-op, war game taking place in the future with modern weapons

Try Time Crisis 4, there is a mode set up just like a first person shooter game but you actually have a gun or you can do the normal mode where all you have to worry about is shooting. I don't know if it has online capabilities or not I've never tried it.

personally i'm ranking these games of what you ought to by first via my recommendation, and this is just my bias:

resistance 1 and 2: great content and story,

cod 4 modern warfare: beautiful game. good story and learnable.

killzone2: great game. pretty hard for the new user, even set on easy mode. fun, but story didn't really draw me in so much.

battlefield bad company is a great RENTER.

skip cod waw if you're burnt out on ww2 sytle games.

i can't deal with the bolt action style rifles personally. i don't have much time to game, so when i do i just like to mow stuff down. i do take my time, but that game feels like a snail. just my preference. not putting others down.

honestly, killzone stinks
im not a fan of the unrealistic shooters.
i like '1 shot to the head = youre dead'

my personal fav (and i came from 360 too) is rainbow six vegas series.
im rockin rsv2! theres tons of people on ps3 and about 90% of the community uses a headset.

other than that id say go for battlefield bad company, you know its a great game.

im waiting for battlefield 1943 on psn this summer.
hopefully rainbow has a new game come out soon

If you like a feeling of accomplishment as I do, K2 and R2, my personal picks for best PS-exclusive shooters, have trophies. I love R2's story, alternate histories always got me good. COD: WaW was so frustrating. Partly because it was a little difficult, my ffault for picking veteran, but mostly because I would work for three hours for a handful of checkpoints, save, and return to find that all my progress was lot. I also received a glitchy copy of COD4 that wouldn't allow me to finish but if I had, I know it would have ranked high on my all-time shooter list. R2 multiplayer supports up to 60-player matches but right now, I think everybody is playing K2.

to me it seems like 'everybody' has sold their copy

youd be surprised how many people do NOT like that genre of game, myself included.

i dont like when i have 2 80round guns, unload the entoire clips into you and yet youre alive. hence i hate halo & killzone

im into realistic shooters. so please dont lie to the guy saying 'everyone is playing killzone 2' cause that is a totally false statement

ill gladly play rainbow six vegas than killzone without even thinking about it
gameplay > graphics. us old school atari 2600/nes guys think exactly like i do

Ok, calm down, because first of all, what you like and what everybody else llikes may be two different things. I said "I think" with a small level of certainty. I completely agree that I don't like shooting a guy in the head more than once without him dying. Two can make sense since they're wearing those thick helmets but yeah, it's frustrating. But just take a look at the threads for the different games. I'd say it's fair to use these boards as a barometer as to who is playing what and right now, it seems that everybody is playing K2.

Killzone 2
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Call of Duty: World at War
Resistance 2
Dead Space (not really a shooter as much as it is a sci fi survival horror game, but it still kicks butt!!)

I'm into FPS... And I thought the game was alright. Multiplayer is awesome though.

There's a few FPS I played over and over. The first Halo and Timesplitters. If I had to choose it would be Timesplitters. Oh I guess I consider Fallout 3 as a FPS. I don't like going into 3rd person mode with that game

Both Dead Space and Fallout 3 are excellent games but neither have online play like the OP wanted.

I'd recommend KZ2 or COD4 for best of both.

Or like other people suggested if a more realistic tactical shooter is preferred something like GRAW# or RB6.

Good choice on killzone jbute, although I only feel good recommending it if you are above average at fps or are patient. A few people were really bad at this game when it first came out and let it ruin their experience for them.
