What would you do if Universal Studios remains exclusive to the HD-DVD format?

Now granted Universal has some older titles I would like to own but if they would be dumb enough to remain HD DVD exclusive when the public has clearly chosen Blu-Ray, that level of selfishness is unacceptable...Wait a minute...Universal is being dumb enough to remain HD DVD exclusive when the public has clearly chosen Blu-Ray! Seriously though, I would just have to buy their standard DVDs.

The only way I would purchase Universal flicks is if Blu-ray threw in the towel and said that HD-DVD is going to be the winner. I feel that every HD-DVD disc/player sold is simply prolonging the 'war'.

I was going to vote I would never purchase their movies if Universal Studios remained exclusive to the HD-DVD format. Then I realized I am a movie collector first and a BLU-RAY fan second. If several years went by and Universal remained exclusive to HD-DVD then I would have to get at least one working combo player to play their HDTV movies. So far I do not own any HD-DVD products but my patience as a movie collector only last so long.

I know how you feel. I bought an Xbox 360 Elite for gaming purposes (my second 360, for LAN parties) with the intention of not buying the HD-DVD add-on because I support blu-ray, but then I found out about Heroes being HD-DVD exclusive and I found the add-on player for $180 and I couldn't resist. I feel kind of bad for helping to prolong the war, but I'm actually glad I did because now no HD movie is out of my grasp.

it's awfully tempting...but I feel like I am helping to slow things down this way...

plus it also encourages multi-formats in the future....

I'm not going to tell you what you did was wrong...because I've come close to folding...especially when I saw the 1st gen Toshiba player floor model on closeout for 99.93 at sears.....

but I will be patient....awfully patient..

I voted that I own a HD DVD for the Universal movies. Some day, I will have an interesting conversation piece. Sort of like the DIVX movies I have.

Yes I hope HD-DVD has the same fate as DIVX. Looks like HD-DVD might last a few years or coexist.

I never owned a DIVX player, but I bought a few titles, left them sealed. Except The X Files. I opened that up, and tried to play it. Of course, it did not work, but it has some sort of cool message on it...I forget what it says...but it said something about how it won't play...

Back in 1997 when the DVD format launched if the DIVX feature would have been made mandatory then maybe DIVX would have had a niche market. I am glad DIVX failed but it might have coexist if it was a standard feature in all DVD players.

I refuse to buy another high def player when the one I own is the dominant format...

if they won't comply with the market, then it's their loss and I'm fine with the current studio support of BD...

DIVX was not a feature of DVD, it was a competing format. Circuit City claimed it was a feature, but I think the fact that no founding members of the DVD Forum supported it was proof enough of what it really was. I happily embraced the news of its demise.

Well, in this case I will just keep my SD DVD's which are really an alternative. But I'm sure even such ignorants have to change their decision in the future.

I don't plan to replace my SD versions with HD versions, so my interest is in new movies only. Since Universal has pretty much lost the ability to create new material that is worth having, Universals choice of release format doesn't have much effect on me. The studios with the worthwhile new films are already releasing on Blu-Ray.

If Universal Studios remains exclusive to HD-DVD I would never purchase their movies.

In the highly unlikely event that they snub BD to the bitter end? @#$% 'em. I have 90 percent studio support that will be cranking out plenty of great content in the interim.

watch universal movies on burned blu ray discs from ripped hddvd's
or
Just stick with the dvd format for universal films sees the blu light

I already have the Universal movies I want to see in SD. Thanks to 1.80 on the PS3, I'll get to as close to HD as possible - until Universal sees the [blu] light.

I will re-buy some of the older classics and personal favorites on BD...but I won't buy movies at the rate I did with DVD on BD until the price comes down significantly..

I will borrow the HD DVD, rip the content and burn it to a BD-R.
