Arrow Will Alexander Skarsgard Be Thor?

The latest rumor is out there. I wouldn't have a problem with this. I liked him in True Blood. The role he plays there requires little range. It would basically be the first Marvel hero played by a lesser known actor.

I'm wondering if Marvel periodically leaks someone from their short list to see what the fans think.

Quote:
Ever since it was first announced that Thor was coming to the big screen, fans have been debating endlessly over who would be a perfect Norse God of Thunder. We've heard Kevin McKidd's name tossed around before, but Latino Review has a new scoop today that seems quite solid. They say that Alexander Skarsgård, son of actor Stellan Skarsgård, has been meeting with Thor director Kenneth Branagh
and that this isn't the first time they've heard his name brought up. While it's not official, they've gone to lengths to confirm that meetings have taken place, and if you look at that photo above, it might just make sense.

Here's where I'm conflicted. Paramount would never let Marvel make a Thor movie, currently slated for release on July 16th, 2010, without a big name actor somewhere in the cast. It's just common sense. So if Alexander Skarsgård gets the role as Thor, then they've got to fill up the supporting casting with big actors. But I think it's the other way around. I think we'll still maybe see a bigger name in the lead and that Skarsgård might actually be some supporting character like Thor's brother Loki instead. Just because he looks like a Norse God in real life doesn't mean he has to be Thor, he can still play a different Norse God.

Alexander Skarsgård has starred in "Generation Kill" and "True Blood" recently, so he's got some acting experience, but he's no big name actor by any means. He definitely has the looks, but I still believe Paramount won't let Marvel or Kenneth Branagh fill up the cast of Thor with a bunch of unknowns. As much as the fans would love to see them cast someone who has the looks more than anything, they just can't sell a big summer movie without any big names. We'll obviously find out soon enough how true this all is, but for now, I'm going to entertain the idea that Skarsgård is Thor.

Since they seem to be casting closer to their Ultimate looks. He's an even better choice.

He is a good physical match for the Norse God. I just hope the producers do not decide a relative unknown actor can not carry the title role.

I'd say it's good, go with it.

Having said that, I still think he's no Vinny D'onofrio

Most actors can put on muscle relatively quickly with the help of steroids and an intense training period before shooting begins.

Wow! It's Thor day I guess. I just found Josh Hartnett is rumored to be cast as well. Speculation has him as the Villain. Loki perhaps?

Channing Tatum is also coming up as a name for Thor according to the article (if Alex falls through).

Alex is 6'4" while Hartnett is 6'3"

Actors are taking these things more seriously now that Heath Ledger's raised the bar. This could be really fun to watch.

Quote:
ESB has gotten some exclusive inside information on possible casting for Marvel's THOR film due out July 16, 2010.

Some news came out earlier today from the boys at Latinoreview.com about Alexander Skarsgård being in the running for the lead Thor role after being seen having lunch with director Kenneth Branagh in Beverly Hills.

Yep, that's what we are hearing too but other names are popping up as well including Channing Tatum. However, Branagh himself does want Alex, we'll see if it works out.

But, we also got some other information about the villain in the story, Thor's brother Loki.

Loki isn't a very nice guy. He's quite treachorous actually and fancies himself the God of Mischief. He is repeatedly trying to get rid of Thor and seize the throne of Asgard for himself. One thing led to another and he ended up being the God of Evil. What will his role in Marvel's live action adaptation? Probably something similiar, we know he's the main baddie.

Who does Brannagh want to bring this evil character to life? Try Josh Hartnett. IESB sources say Hartnett has met with Brannagh as well and he is currently on a very short list to play the villain in the film.

Word is Josh and his camp are really interested because he has never played a villain before and after Heath Ledger's Oscar win for the latest comic book villain, Hartnett is intrigued by the character.

Now, for those of you who will copy and paste this article faster than a barefoot jackrabbit on a hot greasy griddle in the middle of August, pay attention to this part - we aren't saying he's been cast, but he's on a very short list for the role of Thor's brother Loki. Got it? Short list.

Hartnett standing at 6 foot 3 inches would be a great adversary to Alex's 6 foot 4 inch frame.

Could this be another Heath Ledger's Joker in the making? Are actors taking the superhero films more serious because of Ledger's Oscar win?

Default Josh Hartnett Playing "Thor" Villain Loki?

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/135...villain-loki-/

Josh Hartnett has apparently met with "Thor" director Kenneth Brannagh and is currently on a very short list to play the villain in the film according to IESB.Net

The character, Thor's brother Loki, repeatedly tries to get rid of Thor and seize the throne of Asgard for himself and ends up being the God of Evil.

The news comes a day after rumors of "True Blood" Alexander Skarsgård being in the final running to play the titular Norse God riled up online fandom.

Meanwhile Marvel's Joe Quesada tells Times Online that they couldn't be happier with having someone like Branagh at the helm - "Branagh gets the Marvel history of the character, he gets the overall flavour and tone of the Marvel universe. He gets that it's not just about action and adventure and costumes, it's about what's at the heart of the character."

Not a big fan of this choice. I've never really like Hartnet as an actor. He's very bland and doesn't suit most roles that he gets.

Whew! I saw the thread title on the home page and it cut off part of title so it read " Josh Hartnett Playing "Thor..." That would have been infinitely worse.
