Josh Hartnet as Loki, I would have never guessed that which makes it that much better. I think he is a great actor and I would guess that he could pull it off so long as he really lets himself go all out with the role.

I'm really excited for this film.
If there's one thing that Marvel {as a whole} knows how to do, it's build hype for whatever it is that they're doing.

Well look at this pic. He's 6'4" with an average/athletic build. Now put him in a rigorous training program and diet for 4 or 5 months. THOR

Default Josh Hartnett Playing "Thor" Villain Loki?

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/135...villain-loki-/

Josh Hartnett has apparently met with "Thor" director Kenneth Brannagh and is currently on a very short list to play the villain in the film according to IESB.Net

The character, Thor's brother Loki, repeatedly tries to get rid of Thor and seize the throne of Asgard for himself and ends up being the God of Evil.

The news comes a day after rumors of "True Blood" Alexander Skarsgård being in the final running to play the titular Norse God riled up online fandom.

Meanwhile Marvel's Joe Quesada tells Times Online that they couldn't be happier with having someone like Branagh at the helm - "Branagh gets the Marvel history of the character, he gets the overall flavour and tone of the Marvel universe. He gets that it's not just about action and adventure and costumes, it's about what's at the heart of the character."

Not a big fan of this choice. I've never really like Hartnet as an actor. He's very bland and doesn't suit most roles that he gets.

Whew! I saw the thread title on the home page and it cut off part of title so it read " Josh Hartnett Playing "Thor..." That would have been infinitely worse.

I don't know, I'm thinking he could do well as a villian.

There is not many actors who are taller than 6'4" and look like they are Norse. I think its the right direction. I just hope its not a 5'10" actor in the end. The guy who played the leader of the Vikings in The 13th Warrior would have been a good choice a few years ago.

His dad actually played the leader of the Saxons in King Arthur.

Default I've said it before...I'll say it again.

If this movie isn't done just right, it will turn into a 2 hour gay joke.

I mean...look at the Hulk vs. Thor tv special from the late 80's early 90's when Thor answers the door in a towel with a beer pitcher in his hand

The guy at the door says,

"I'm looking for a man"

Thor replies,

"I AM a maaaaaaan."

Good God people...the casting in this movie needs to be as serious as a heart attack or we WILL get another towel scene!!!

I don't have a problem with relative unknowns being cast for any role as long as there is a good story and the actor that's being cast can act and carry the part. As far as physical build, many actors can bulk up for the part. Just remember, big names don't necessarily mean a good movie.

Here are some example of successful movie with actors that were relative unknowns, considered not quite a fit, or not yet big stars when they were made:

Star Wars - basically the entire cast were relative unknowns
Batman Begins - Christian Bale - not as well-known as he's been since the movie
Dark Knight - Heath Ledger - not as much a household name and not quite a fit for the role?
Batman - Micheal Keaton - more known for his work as a comedic actor at the time
Rocky - Sylvester Stallone - thought of as not muscular enough (more like scrawny)
Superman - Christopher Reeve - even though he looked similar was also not thought of as physically fitting the role at the time
