![]() ![]() Robocop Blu-ray Robocop Blu-ray Review I saw this over on DVD Empire. http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_ite...or=1#topoftabs It says that the BD RoboCop will be the R-rated version. The DVD that just came out is the Unrated version, so there's no excuse, unless they are looking to double-dip in the future. No unrated = No sale for me. Just cause something says its "unrated" does not mean it's "better", or "sexier" or even "bloodier". It just means that they added in at least one scene or extended a scene and that cut has not been rated by the MPAA.
It could be anything from an extremely violent or hardcore scene, or an elderly couple drinking tea in the afternoon. usually it is nothing worth getting worked up over. |

I'm sure there are people like me who prefer the unrated cut and will wait for a double dip if this is the case. |

I own the unrated Criterion DVD and in this case it does mean "bloodier".

Yeah, I was interested in the unrated version too. I am always more interested in the unrated/uneditted/uncut versions or at least being able to choose the theatrical cut OR the new cut. This is more of an issue with dramas that show a lot of skin (e.g., where the truth lies, basic instinct, etc.). The cuts made to those movies are DRASTIC. But I still would rather have the longer, bloodier versions of the Robocop scenes. I feel like I am getting ripped off when I have to buy an editted version of something that has an uneditted version. Ugh.

What I don't understand is why they exploit the words "unrated" so much. Sometimes it is a pathetic attempt just to get people to buy the same movie again in an unclear promise of bloodier or sexier scenes.
And yet if you look at other extended movies like Superman II, Lord of the Rings EE, etc... they managed to get rated despite adding/changing their content. |

Anyone who chooses the BD R cut over the SD DC/unrated cut of Robocop is a half wit. Its the same as the Terminator 2 BD why would you buy that when its only the theatrical cut of the film & the dvd has 3 versions of the film. Its the same old story of early adopters getting shafted with inferior products.

Or often uncut/unrated means it is released the way the director originally intended the movie to be seen but had to take it out to release it in theaters. I was really looking forward to the uncut version of Robocop on BD and now will probably just Netflix it. The differences are small but if I buy the R version I know I will be a sucker and buy the uncut version down the road again.

The same goes for Saw. The uncut version is on DVD, so why not BD? |

Because the website for Walmart initially listed those features that didn't exist on the BD when I ordered it and(stupid me) it wasn't until after watching the feature & then looking for the extended cut that I realized I had been duped into the double dip. And I had actually never seen the theatrical version before that, so I was really confused. (again, stupid me)I just assumed it auto played the theatrical version & you could choose the other from the menu. I learned from that one & thoroughly research every purchase now.

I just hope to God it's not the same master they tried to release last year. It was so bad it was pulled back.

Especially after listening to Verhoeven's commentary explaining that the cuts make the ED-209 scene from "so over the top violent that it's funny" to just a guy getting killed.

So there's no excuse for the BD not to be unrated as well. |
