Default I am about to buy a Blu-ray player

I am about to embark into a newfoundland of sound an audio, knowing that bluray won, and I'm not going to have to worry about being the person who bought the HD-DVD player which would have gone right next to the betamax

Since these players play at a higher bitrate, what about regular CD's? Will they sound BETTER than my regular CD player?

I'm getting the Sony BDP-S300 to go along with my Sony HD LCD 40" V series.
Unless, I should just go with a playstation 3, but then I'm hearing they're nowhere near as good. If that's the truth, I'm sticking with it.

Its not the player that determines the bitrate. Its the disc itself.
So then why is it that I hear that 256 bitrate CD's on a regular CD player will only play at 126?

before you buy the bdp-s300, how important are the advanced blu-ray profiles and HD audio codecs to you?

I had the S300 and exchanged it for a PS3. The best move since deciding to invest in Blu-ray. Don't buy the S300, its not worth the money at all! Too slow, and will not support BD-Live.

No, they won't.

Aside from some parameters that only concern hi-end players, the limit is the legacy spec for CD. You can have (expensive) players that extract the data marginally better, but they cannot invent info that isn't in the original disc.

MP3 and AAC - even at high bitrates - are lossy codecs. Whether you perceive the difference or not greatly depends from your audio gear. But generally speaking, you should -- MP3 sound is less detailed and less "rich".

On the other hand, you will definitely hear the difference with better speakers. It can be night and day. The purists will tell you that 50% of the money you plan to spend on a home theater should be used on the speakers alone.

It you have a reasonably good equipment (it doesn't have to be hi end, just well balanced), SACD and DVD Audio will bring you a sound fidelity that CDs can't match.

The Blu Ray player that I bought is just a stand in. It is a Samsung and I don't like it, but I would replace whatever I had bought.

The reason is that I can't stand single disc players. I don't understand why they even make them. I want a 5 disc changer and it is irritating to me that there are no blu ray changers out there.

As soon as one is released, my samsung goes in the trash and I am getting the changer.

That's interesting because I HATE changers (unless it's my 400 disc SACD, but for movies, I never understood why you'd want them in the changer..... I have to put my children back in their cases, and back on the shelves IMMEDIATELY after watching them)
