Question PS3 Picture keeps flickering and going blank!

I Have a Hyundai HLT-3010 connected to my 60GB PS3 via a 4Gamers HD Component cable displaying in HD. every so often the picture will flicker and sometime black out and a message will come up saying Out of Range or No signal. usually the picture will come straight back on but sometimes it takes a up to a minute. the sound which is connected to my home cinema system via optical out stays on.

ive also notice that when the fridge in the room clicks off the speakers of my home cinema system make a loud popping noise. this make me think it could be an electrical problem. however when i tell the ps3 to output via compostite in SD there is no flicker.

i also have a Sky digibox connected to the same tv via scart and about after 30 second the picture cuts out but with no flicker but the sound remains. the only way to make the picture come back is turninng the tv off and on again the after another 30 secs the same thing happens. but it only happens twice then it is fine.

any suggestions how to fix it?

Sounds like a handshake issue, but ive never heard of one when using component cables. Also, why in the world would you ever want to use Composite cables??

The popping you get sounds like an electrical issue and i would suggest a power conditioner.

I appreciate that you're probably a little frustrated at what's happening with your set-up, but spamming this question across three sub-forums (that all hit the front page) probably isn't going to make folks inclined to do anything other than flame you.

im using component cables because my tv doesnt have an HDMI input and i was told component would be better than DVI. i used composite cables to see if it was the ps3 the was faulty or the cable and since there was no flickering with composite i think it is the cable that is faulty or the component sockets.

It won't be if you make three threads for it.

Handshake issue most likely. Try new cabling. Put a power conditioner on your system. That should help with the popping from the fridge turning on.

I would try new cables. It sounds like a problem with the cables itself or a connection problem. You could also try wiggling the connections in the latter case. Aside from that there would either be a problem with the PS3's video output or the TV's input.

Who ever told you component cables are better than DVI is foolish. Go buy a HDMI to DVI cable from Walmart or anywhere. Problem solved.

My 80GB PS3 does this every so often as well. I haven't done any tests to figure out what is causing it yet though.

I've been thinking of ordering a new component cable though. I'll certainly get back to this thread if that fixes the issue.

Yes, very much so. Are you in an apartment? Are you plugged into an outlet that is wired with the fridge? Make sure you get a very meaty power conditioner. There are plenty of threads regarding them.

Ok before you spam the whole website.....Do a system restore, than reupdate
your ps3, if your still having the problem call Sony...

and like other dude said, power strip/surge protector....and of course try not
to run it on the same circuit as your fridge if possible
