Default Ps3 Compnent Cables Flickering

I have a 80GB Ps3; I only got it in February. Whenever I hook my cables up to my Toshiba TV, and I make a transition from dark-to- light (ingame) and vice versa, the screen flickers. Does anybody have any idea how I can fix this? Thank you.

the entire picture actually "flickers"? or maybe your Contrast is turned way too high and the white's "flicker"?

Okay...Gotta give us some specs before any of us can help.

What kind of cables??

Which game??

Does it happen with Movies??

Can you hook a stand alone player or another game system to the Component jacks, because it might be the jacks.

It could be alot of things, but help us help you.

Later and good luck.

ps - this will most likely turn into a thread about how some dude said the Transformers was coming out next month and how he's a complete liar, so try and get back to us soon ;o

Is this flickering in scenes that are too bright?

What TV are you using?

I used to have a cheaper CRT where lightning flashes would cause the whole scene to lose synch.

Ok...I have the Official Sony Component Cables, with gold tops, that allows the full range of HD except for HDMI.

Every game that has light and dark areas, i.e. GTA IV, Oblivion, Devil May Cry 4, Assassin's Creed. Seems like sports games are the only ones not affected.

The only movie I have tried is the Muse HAARP DVD...but I ran it at SD resolution, and whenever I run games at SD, they work fine. It is only 720p and up.

The only other system I have is a Gamecube, and I guess I'm right when I say that won't work with the Sony cables? I sold my Ps2, so I can't try that. As well, this is my second set of these cables; both pairs have given me this problem. Plus, I have tried my Ps3 on my friends HDMI TV, and it worked perfectly

Thanks again for you're help; ask if you need to know anything else.

The flickering only happens when changing from light to dark and vice versa. For example, walking under a torch in Oblivion, driving under a bridge in GTA IV that has light peeking through....falling down into an alley in Assassin's Creed. This problem seems to happen a lot more when I am in a dark area, like a dungeon in Oblivion too.

I am using a Toshiba 20DL77 LCD Color TV with ColorStream.

I wanna thank you guys too; this message board has been the most eager to help me.

I turned my settings on the TV to default, and it looked better. I was wondering, for those who use component cables, can you post the settings you use on your TVs? I think that may be the problem. Thank you.

Usually, the default settings in TVs are too bright for movies. If you have a Sony BD movie, in the main menu pressing 7669 ('SONY') and then enter, you should get a chance to run calibration on your TV.

These settings look dark at first, but after you get used to them, you'll notice a lot more details that weren't obvious before.

As for your flickering issue, is this during a resolution change? Eg : games typically change to 720P60 even if your ps3 system menu run in 1080i.

Some tvs just glitch more during resolution change as they don't blank before resynch.

No, this happens when I play the game; the resolution is set, and moving the screen around in a dark area with a source of light present cause the flickering. I guess it is possible for me to take a video, if needed.

If you have a friend with a different TV, try it on his. It might be your particular TV. Perhaps you could send it in for service if your friend's TV is ok.

Alternately, borrow your friends' cables. If their cables work, you might have bad contacts on your cable. Also if they can bring their PS3 over to your TV and their PS3 work, it could be the component output on your PS3 is wonky.

It is quite common for TVs to have some inputs degrade signals to lose color or glitch like what you described --- usually with intermittent missing colors though...

The DACs in the analog multi-out port on the PS3 aren't very good. You could get one of these things to convert the HDMI out to component:

http://cgi.ebay.com/PS3-HDMI-to-RCA-...QQcmdZViewItem

I have one of these for the rare occasions when I want to use my CRT PC monitor, it works fairly well. But saving up for a new TV might be a better idea.

I think you're right about the multi-out port, as I had a similar problem. I had this weird colour banding effect on my last TV when I hooked the PS3 up to it via component. I had this purpleish band of colour scroll vertically across my screen (this was on a 26" Toshiba 1080i CRT, with my 20GB on launch day). I was unhappy about this and drove to Walmart and picked up a set of HDMI cables, and the problem went away with the HDMI. My component cables were Monster brand that I had purchased for my PS2 (which I never had colour problems with), and the component cables that ran from my DVD-R to the TV also never had problems. After I got my plasma earlier this month, I hooked up my PS3 to the toshiba via component again, while my Panasonic was breaking in, and I immediately got that colour banding again.

I'm willing to bet it's the AV multi-out that is causing this guy's problem, as it certainly seemed to be the case with me.

Hmm.. I should hook up the components to my Panny and see if the banding shows up again as an experiment, see if it really is the av multi-out.
