Will Blu Ray movies only output at 1080p on the PS3? - Blu-ray Forum

At this moment it is either 1080i/1080p60 or 480p. Since every HDTV can accept 1080i, thats a good set standard to go with. The PS3 scaled to 720p before but now defaults to 1080i. This will be fixed in a future firmware upgrade. 1080p24 support is also expected.

Yes the PS3 does 1080P out on HDMI.......and it looks perfect on my Ruby

I read somwhere that the PS3 used to output at 720p, 1080i and 1080p but after a firmware update, it lost it's 720p capability.

Rumour has it that the firmware coming round the eruopean release of the PS3 will fix this problem

I own a PS3 with the latest firmware(1.51), have seen 720p settings disabled from System Settings. However, I think it gets upscaled(probably not the right word) to 1080i. I own a Sony TV with 720p capability and not 1080p. Bluray movies look as good as Discovery channel. Hope this helps

i am still a little confused, I have a 40" SONY LCD (native 720p / 1080i) if I play BD movies via HDMI PS3, should I set it as native 720p or 1080i for best performance, thank?
