Default How far are you sitting from your TV?

How far away should you be from your 52inch 1080p tv.I tried the almighty google but kept getting conflicting reports.Thought I would hear you suggestions.

I'm nine feet from my screen (120") so by my standards you should be at about 4.5 feet from your TV.

YMMV

From 6-9ft.

The general rule of thumb is 1.5-2X the diagonal size of the screen, for televisions. There are different rules for projectors based upon CIH or CIW.

It's all really personal preference but a good rule of thumb is to multiply your screen size by 1.5. That will give you you're distance, which for you comes to 6.5 feet.

But I say just grab a seat and see where you like it the most.

Distance to size ratios are almost 100% subjective, so in my opinion there isn't much point in putting a number (i.e. 1.5x) on it. I sit about 10-12' from my 50" TV. I used to sit 10-12' from a 32" TV. The larger picture is much better, but I was just fine with the 32".

The only metric I'd put on it is: If you can't read subtitles you're too far away or your TV is too small. If you have to move your eyes to an uncomfortable degree when reading subtitles (or just watching a movie) then you're probably too close. Anything in between is fine.

Whenever I'm asked about the TV size:distance I recommend that you find a good TV model and buy the biggest one you can afford.
