Location, location, location. Assuming the sub is not defective, placement in the room is the key to good bass performance. You need to experiment and find the best location for your sub. Usually, the front corner is a good start. You can also use the subwoofer crawl technique. For more information, read A Guide to Bass Management. The crawl technique is explained there. |

Yes, despite many general claims that "a subwoofer can be placed anywhere in the room, because bass is non-directional," there is only half-truth to that statement.
Subwoofer location is critical! A few feet can make a startling difference. Sometimes even inches. It's possible that the best location may not even be along the front soundstage. For my living room, I get the highest performance with the sub along the left side of my couch, against the wall there. |

i've got it sounding pretty good..and its very impressive but the only things bothering me is when watching the hulk, during the scene with the sound wave guns, it seems to bottom out for a second when they first blast him...is this the sub or in the actual recording? has anyone else experienced this?

When I first got my A2-300, I watched that scene and it bottomed out as well. I had it loud, but nothing crazy and I thought it was because I didn't have a riser. To this day, I haven't watched that movie since I've had my sub but I haven't bottomed out on any other movie. I've done the Iron Hide sweep countless times and it's taken it like a champ I'm curious to see how many others have had this scene do that as well. |

![]() Edit: the new amp is doing awesome! I think something on the old amp may have been loose. During some movie scenes or songs that were pretty quiet, yet had a lot of deep bass, I could hear a slight rattle coming from the sub. But now it sounds great, no noise at all! ![]() Last edited by tbizzle; 08-23-2009 at 03:18 AM. |

You know, I think any bottoming-out, boominess, or muddiness on these subwoofers can be fixed with either settings, placement, or tweaks. Until my last set of tweaks, I always had the impression that The Dark Knight simply was mixed with too much bass and was just a little too much for my subs to handle. Boy is that assumption wrong! I played the scenes that always seemed a little muffled and just a little too much for my subs at the levels I listen at (easily above reference) today and was simply blown away, again, by my subwoofers. I'm falling in love with my movies all over again.

This was the first scene I tried with the Buttkicker and it bottomed out big time! I had to turn the Buttkicker amp volume down, its only in the part when the cannons blast and the scene goes into slow motion, after that its all good. |

UNREAL, UNREAL, UNREAL....i was starting to think i was going to need to order a 2nd one of these until i did the crawl technique...found the right spot and holy hell...every one of my worries has been solved just by putting the sub in the right spot...this thing has so much bass but yet its clean and accurate...im very very happy with this sub

Glad to hear you got the sub position down. Does it still bottom out on that Hulk scene? I'm curious because I'll need to find a good spot for mine so that I can try that scene again. It's the only scene so far that's made my sub bottom out
