Default Dual sub question...

Looking for advice on a dual sub setup. I just got a Paradigm Sub12 and I already have a Def Tech Supercube 1. Would I be able to incorporate it into my HT even though they are 2 different subs ? One's a 12" and the other a 10". Sub12 is 1700 watts and SC1 1500 watts. If yes, what would be a good placement for these ? At first I was thinking of buying another Sub12 to match but I'd hate to blow another $2000 knowing I have another quality sub in-hand already.

Can you hook up the extra sub such that both rear speaker's signals go thru the sub first?

It would be worth looking into. You could use the signals from both or one of the rear speakers. Cutting them off at 80hz will clean up the sound on the rears, and you would be getting signals that would otherrwise be wasted practically. Or run the sub thru the center channel.

I'll check into it, thanks

I run two different brand subs without problem using a y-cable. One sub is in the front on the right, and the one is in the rear on the left. This placement helps even the response across the room. You want the better more powerful sub with the lower extension to be the one in the front. This has worked very well for me and if I didn't already know where the subs were I couldn't pinpoint where the bass is coming from.

I use the exact same set-up. Main Sub up front, right of my TV (the PA-120 Sub, pics in my Gallery below), & the Polk PSW-10 opposite corner (left of couch, under an end table, on a mini DIY Riser) & they work beautiful together, very complimentary. Good luck.

Interesting thread, i have a paradigm ultracube 12 and an old def tech sub that is a 10 i think. I was considering hooking it up with a Y and seeing how it mixed in with my current setup. See if i can smooth out my bass and get rid of a void or two. It does actually have rear surround hookups in and out with speaker wire, so i may give that a shot, although i don't really understand the many interactions with crossovers going on at that point and not sure if i need a sub just to cover an area of 10hz on the rears.

Read a A Guide to Bass Management for the setup of two different subwoofers.

For the theory behind using multiple subwoofers, read A Guide to Subwoofers (Part II): Standing Waves & Room Modes. Post #2 of this thread has diagrams for the best placement of two subwoofers.
