Default Two Subs vs. One

I currently own an Onkyo 505, but am looking at getting the 805. I also currently have the Bose Acoustimass 10 (I know...thumbs down...whatever ) Anyways...I was told by the salesperson at Frys the 805 had the ability to hook up two subs. Would this be advised? or would i be sacrificing power by hooking up two subs instead of one? Im just not impressed with the bass coming from the Bose Bass Module, however i dont exactly want to get rid of the speaker system and start all over.

Read A Guide to Subwoofers (Part I) and A Guide to Subwoofers (Part II) to understand why two subwoofers are better than one.

Also, you can buy cheap and decent speaker/subwoofers from PartsExpress, The Speaker Company, and BIC America.

Every A/V receiver is able to have 2 subs connected. The TX-SR805 only has one subwoofer output as well. I know because I own one(also I just looked at Onkyousa.com lol). All you need to do is buy a "Y-Adapter".

Just get an actual sub and run that alone. No reason to run the "bass module" at all -- it's only going to make a mess of the low end sound (and not be able to hand much below 40 hz, if that).

I would suggest only using two subs if they are alike anyways, in most cases at least.

You don't sacrifice any power using two subs, because they have their own amps built in.

I know the "bass module" isn't an actual sub, but i dont really want to get rid of it or let it just sit and collect dust. I figure by using "it" and a real sub it should be alright. At least I'll give it a shot and see how it sounds.

If you can stretch it, I'd highly recommend the Martin Logan Dynamo - retails for $599 but I'm sure some deals could be had - it's the finest retail sub I've heard under $1,000 - but then again, I haven't heard many of the online brands like HSU, SVS, AV123 - they say it's MFW-15 is fantastic, but they're always out of stock!

But definitely out of all the brands you can find at stores - the Dynamo is the best!

Just became in stock on Friday

Mine ships tomorrow. I got billed Friday and have been on the waiting list since June 20th. I'll let you all know what I think of it later on.

That sounds like a good deal for a good sub. I'll look into that

How about a 15"? If that's too much, try two of these.

Well, i want tight, deep bass...but i dont want to drown out the rest of the speakers. I think a 15 might be a bit too much. A 12 might be more suitable.
