You can, but you would be best off with another klipsch sub, preferably the same model. Some people cant heard the differences between subs, so if you cant then go ahead and get it. Ask him to let you try it out first.

Although two identical subs is preferred, with some experimentation and patience you can make two different subs work in a home theater. Read A Guide to Subwoofers (Part II): Standing Waves & Room Modes. It explains the benefits of two subs and how you should place them. Be patient and go through the entire OP. It will help you understand subwoofers a lot better.

Buy it for $100.00 and trade it in on another Klipsch RW-12d Thats what I'd do , or resell it and double you'r money , than buy the new RW-12d.. either way it's a win , win ...

I know two Identical is preferred, but does that mean all four should be the same?

Or two Identical up front and two Identical in the rear, but the two front and the two rears are different.

Reason I am asking, I have heard about the subs should be from the same maker and same size. What about ported and sealed boxes mixed together, I havn't read anything about that mix.

I am thinking about making two more subs. I already have two ported upfront, but I am thinking of making the two new ones sealed and in the rear.

Upfront (2)12 inch Ported sub's \
-------------------------------------Both Amps: 300 watts continuous --- 650 watts max
Rear (2)10 inch sealed sub's /

What would that sound like? Any Idea's from anyone.

Four identical subs from the same manufacture is the best option. However, it is not always possible as subs become discontinued or because of budgetary concerns. In that case, use 4 subwoofers that have the same size driver and the cabinets are approximately the same size. If the front subs are ported, use ported subs in the rear. Remember that this not rocket science. With patience and proper placement, you can make four subs that are not exactly identical to work with each other, even if you mix ported and sealed.

I wanted to do that on purpose. I am looking for a certain sound. Can't really explain what that sound is. Something like having the sealed box help the ported ones.

I think I will build one just to get that curiosity out my head.

Sealed subs are tight, and fast. They are not exceptionally loud or room-filling unless they have ungodly amounts of power, or multiple drivers. (Do not think of the beasts Big Daddy builds, they're on a different plane).

Ported subs are, essentially, large, hollow bass tubes. They will fill an area (this is bad terminology, but hopefully you know what I mean) with more pervasive sound. They are not the best at high volume unless the builder is extremely precise with construction; and their sound characteristics change in that space, based on the pitch being played, and the sound pressure level. Ported subs have "sweet spots", unlike quality sealed subs. Ports are "tuned" to certain frequencies, and beyond the port frequency, performance lags. Within that sweet spot, ported subs are unsurpassed for performance.

I like both types, and the blend you're looking for is fast and tight sound (best for quality music reproduction, and sharp, fast HT sounds - think cannon fire) and pervasive sound (ambient rumbling noises, think huge waterfalls).

This will be an interesting experiment, and key to it will be sub placement. My preference is sealed in front of you, ported to the sides. But that was for the space I was setting it up; yours is obviously different, and you have to figure it out yourself.

The only downside is dragging those monsters around while testing it out. Ah, the things we do for noise.

You hit it right on the button. That is what I was thinking and I am hope to achieve.

I can't go that way, these Klipsch(the ported ones) are not for the sides or the middle of the room. The manual says to put them upfront or in a corner. I plan to leave them where they are now, unless with this combination it calls for the ported to be moved from the front.

I really don't have room for two more, but I will try .... lol

Putting a sub in a corner is not an instruction that is specific to Klipsch subwoofers. It is a generic instruction that you will find in all manuals and publications and applies mostly to a single sub placement. The instruction has more to do with standing waves and room modes than your particular type of sub.

With multiple subs, you have more flexibility.

The best advice is not found in a manual, but is given by Big Daddy.

Big Daddy's Advice Regarding Multiple Subwoofer Placement: Understand the science behind standing waves & room modes and don't be afraid to experiment. Your room plays an important role in subwoofer placement. Nobody can help you in that department. You are the only one who needs to carry that monster around. Watch your back. Wear a tight belt.

The pic you have shows a person in the middle of the room.
or
You can also say that he has room behind him for placement.

From this pic below, I really only have one spot open for a 10 inch sealed sub. I hope it works out this way. I am thinking between the two chairs in the corner. That chair is to the wall, I don't have any space behind it. when I made this pic I have no idea why I put that chair out that far

The person in the middle is only for demonstration purposes only.

A sub in a corner gives you deeper and possibly boomier sound. A sub closer to your seating area will give you more higher frequency bass sound. Dr. Hsu of Hsu Research recommends this setup for two subwoofers. One in a corner and one close to you. I beleive Hsu research markets a sub for putting next to your seating area.

In your room, you have to experiment with moving the subs and the chairs. I know it is a real pain.

Myself, I would sub the near right and the far left. Pointing toward the listening position.

decided to keep my bic-h100 after recently getting my pb10. at first it didn't sound right and was having second thoughts about the svs but after a while I really started to feel it. Placement is kind of different from what is recommended with one in the front left and one at the rear right but I can definitely feel my heart pound from all 5 seating positions. So with 2 different brand subs I would say i cant even tell where most of the bass is coming from, all I can say is it just sounds a hell of a lot better than one as i have tried one at a time at different positions.

Even though you get solid bass in all five seating slots, did you notice any difference in volume or tone in each seat? Just curious - I have a huge problem with room gain, no matter where I put them - it's loud in all areas, but it sounds different.

actually there is a difference in each position the strongest bass presence obviously in my rear seating because its against the wall but I definitely feel a lot of bass in my front row now where with one sub - I tried each separately - it was not felt so much like when I was only using the bic.

Hey guys, I know this thread is called Two subs. I have two subs and they are perfect where they are.

I am thinking of adding Two MORE subs to the set-up and I am thinking of making them Sealed boxes compared to the ported ones I already have.

I am really wondering how 2 ported and 2 sealed boxes will sound like, thats all it's about. I'm sure I will not even keep the sealed boxes in this apt, but have them ready for when I move.

Just a test!
