Sony Pictures Resident Evil: Extinction (2007)

I am thinking of purchasing Resident Evil Extinction on BD. I have seen the upscaled DVD version which I thought was pretty good, and decided to search for some BD reviews.

Martin Liebman on Blu-ray.com gives the Movie 4, PQ 5 and SQ 5.

Joshua Zyber on Hi-Def Digest gives the movie 3, PQ 3.5, and SQ 4.5.

Looks like the SQ is good, but how can there be such a big difference in PQ.

I only buy BD's which have 4.5 to 5 for PQ, so I would like your opinions on the PQ. I have seen the movie on SD DVD, so I have formed my own opinion on that.

So lets hear your opinions on the PQ.

PQ was about a 4 out of 5. Some parts looked great while others not so much. Some of the long shots of the desert looked great. Movie sucked, and felt like a Sci-Fi channel original though.

I thought the movie was average, but there were some excellent scenes, especially the attack of the crows.

I'd give it at least a 4.5.

Here's another review (home theater spot): http://www.hometheaterspot.com/fusio...hp?tid/140020/

They gave it 5/5.

I loved the PQ in this movie, my favorite of the series. Great, fun flick.

I give it a 4.875 to the PQ and I actually like the movie for what it is, not gonna get any kind of Academy Award but it is fun to watch.

I'd give it a 4.5 easy....the softer scenes in the movie are meant to be that way and the transfer was excellent from what was on the big screen. Any mention of negatives in reviews regarding this makes me wonder if the reviewer saw the movie in the theaters (I did). If you like the RE movies, this one is great on BR and a nice addition to the collection, IMHO.

From a previous post I made:

Quote:
The only thing I can't stand about Extinction's look is the touch-up digital smoothing/blurring they do to Milla's face on many close-up scenes. It looks awful and is blatently obvious. Throws me out of the movie everytime. She looks like a porcelain doll sometimes! I've been told it was noticeable in the theater. Yes, I know it's not a problem with the Blu-Ray... it's just the movie and some poor choices made in production.
Because of this, I'd definitely give it an overall thumbs down, even ignoring the marginal plot.

Completely agree with you. I noticed the same thing. I also think it was a meager attempt at a Road Warrior type post-apocalyptic scenario.

Bottom Line is people who like the movie will say get it people who hate the movie will say dont get it. thats why netflix and blockbuster are a good thing if you can use them rent the BD of the movie and decide for yourself and not by what other people say.

I thought the picture quality of the blu-ray was fantastic - one of the top 10 best that I've seen so far.

And this from a non-horror, non-RE "fanatic."

So take my opinion for what it's worth.

Default It was ok

Pq and Aq I thought were top notch.... but top notch PQ and AQ on movie that just....isn't the best of the series, and, well, just not that good is kind of like putting perfume on a pig....just my two cents ...

Although there seems to be a major difference of opinions. I have ordered from Amazon.co.uk.

As I previously stated, I don't have a problem with the movie, I just needed to know if PQ was good, and the majority of replies seem to agree on that subject.

Thumbs up Decent flick

I agree with the below review.

Quote:

The PQ and SQ are top notch. Flat at times on the overly bright outdoor shots and crystal clear on skin tones & interior shots besides the digitally airbrushed Milla's face skin.

The print has the new HD look. The plot is not as good as RE-1 but far better than RE-2. I picked this
one for $18 from www.mjentertainment.net.

Yeah, any problems with the image were with the underlying film (particularly the airbrished face).

I thought the movie was excellent. I'd recommend buying the Blu Ray trilogy. I did and do not regret it. Good value.

The only one you need to buy in this Trilogy is Resident Evil: Apocalypse! All of these movies were pretty ripped to shreds from the gamers vantage. They have this thing on how they don't wanna go with the game story line because they think that you should just go play the game again, when most of the people gonna see the movie have never played the game. Three words "Not Worth It!". I regret buying it!

Gamers vantage? Speak for yourself. I'm a gamer. I bought my playstation specifically to play RE2, as the adds looked so cool. I've played most of the RE games. I'm looking forward to RE5 a LOT.

But to quote De Nero's character in The Deer Hunter "See this? This is this. This ain't something else. This is this." The Resident Evil movie is not the game. The Silent Hill movie is not the game. I'm not tarded enough to think gee, I liked that game, therefore I'm gonna like the movie as it is gonna be the same thing except I just don't have to push any buttons. Would it have made you happier to have her running backwards and forward over a mansion pushing statues and looking for keys to open a ****ing plywood door, even though she is carrying a minigun? Would that have made you go "yeah awesome, true to the game!!!"

Maybe you should play them all form start to finish before you go running your mount... to get a better appreciation of the original story line.. and if you haven't notice Video game movies don't do well in the box office. Plus like a large portion of the people have never even played the game. "Its all about being true to the storyline.". All people are different and gamers vantage doesn't mean I speak for everyone nub(kinda like that movie Vantage Point where they all have different view points.... DEERP!!!)! It just means I'm a gamer and would have loved for them to stick to the storyline.
