Default b750 disappointment

So i purchased a samsung 46b750 within 30 days ago, and it looks great and got it for a great price. But, i'm still having a nagging feeling. It doesn't help that there is a strange scratchy/clicking noise when I start it up (most likely due to a defective relay mechanism); but I dunno (by the way, I called samsung tech, they came out twice to try and repair it...). I bought a 640 first, and within that weekend I returned it for the 750, the 640 had some lip syncing and it just didn't feel right. I figured, 240hz, most expensive conventional lcd samsung has, the 750 will be the way to go... but, on 24p playback, yet again, syncing issues. So, I then assume, there really is no difference between the processing of the 120 hz versus the 240, it's just a matter of the actual processing ability. Through in a horrible input lag when not using game mode, and for 1500 bucks, something just doesn't sit right.

So my question to anyone here is, if i'm having trouble with the samsung, my faith in their LCDs is falling fast. I would rather jump ship and go for a sony. The picture quality on the 750 is great, but how does it honestly compare to some of the sony tvs. I know you can't separate blur and dejudder in the sony's but frankly, samsung's ability to separate is moot when its unwatchable due to syncing issues! Internet connectivity is nice (mainly for updates) but I don't really bother with them - too slow. So, if the sony w5100 all the way to the xbr9 (xbr8 is too pricey for me - law student) all supposedly handle the 24p motion properly, how do they look in other categories, such as black levels, color, ghosting, etc? Because, if I can find a 46w5100 that looks very similar to the z or xbr, and to the 750, but with a lower price... seems like a simple decision??

I'm sorry your having so much trouble with your Samsung, believe it or not I just recently got upgraded to the same TV you have the B750 from the A750 and mine does not have any of the problems yours has. In fact my B750 has a much better picture than my A750 which had a little clouding in right top corner. My B750 has a perfect backlight no bleeding or clouding. The lipsync on mine has been dead on no delays or nothing. As far as the input lag I see none and I just finished Uncharted 2 with the PS3 and I saw none on my TV.

I would guess you have a defective Samsung and I would see if they could trade it for a different one.

wow, so then we have a perfect comparison, because i just beat uncharted 2 last week, and the input lag was so bad, i had to turn on game mode (never had to with my 32 inch samsung. As far as bleeding, i get some on my top left corner, and I can't engage really any processing for fear of syncing. This all goes to show poor quality control I guess. Which is unfortunate. Worse yet, there are barely any b750's left in stock at bbuy, and even if I exchanged it, i've been told that my 30 day period does not extend (which makes sense)... so, I don't think i'll be willing to gamble seeing as how my experience has been less than awesome... uncharted did look sweet though...

Yeah I will say samsung's quality control can be poor sometimes althougth I've heard alot less complaints on the B750 and that most are happy with there's. I went through 2 A630's (both had dead pixels and clouding) until I got the A750 which was great except for a little clouding and the stupid halo around the bezel which they couldn't fix and now I'm at the B750 which has been perfect since day one and I hope it stay's that way. I'm not sure what to tell you to do but I figured I would tell you my experiences as of late.

How is the audio for the TV connected? Do you have it running through a receiver? If so, which one? Sometimes the audio snyc can be corrected through the receiver......

And from what source are you getting lag? Blu-ray or broadcast TV? Broadcast TV varies I recently found out. I had Comcast for years and never had lag problems, now, I have recently switched to U-verse and get occasional issues. I have an A650, a 468000, had a 42" Kuro 950 and an XBR9 for a week and it didn't matter what set it was.

yeah, comcast has lag here and there depending on the channel (TNT primarily); but that's to be expected. I have my audio from the ps3 going through a sony 820, the bluray audio lag is noticable and when I turn off all processing, it's gone. My 820 does have a delay feature, but the problem is that sometimes there is lip syncing issues, and other times theres not, but if I use the 820 feature, i would have the inverse of the tv syncing issue! Maybe I got a lemon, it's a shame too, because the tv is sweet... but, oh well. The lack of a new 30 day guarantee and even b750's in stock is the killer for me... but from what i've learned, there are a bunch of options, and each are good in their own way. But when it's all said and done, 1080p on bluray looks freakin sweet regardless haha.

I would also point out, which I failed to do earlier, I have some considerable flickering when i engage 24p via ps3... noticed it on 300, clouds flickered pretty bad... and a lot of scenes on uncharted/battlefield 1943, particularly the start up sequence.

Thanks bluskinsfan21!! It's a work in progress....I still want to get more stuff!!! I still want new speakers (Paradigms, Monitor's or KEF's) and an amp, plus a second SVS sub to go on the left wall to match the one on the right.

Anyway, just a thought, but is there a "sync" feature for the B750? Is that "on" perhaps? This is a stab in the dark, but if so, perhaps this might be the cause?

nah, i've combed through just about everything outside of the hidden menu. I think i've pretty much decided to return it. I got a pretty sick deal on it, 1399 about 3.5 weeks ago, so i'm sure if I look, i can find a good deal on another comparable tv. I kinda like the sony w5100, seems to have pretty favorable reviews... no lag in ps3 play, no known lip syncing 24p issues, decent black levels/color accuracy. I won't be tricked into thinking the 240hz processing is as big of a deal as they make it out to seem either...

I was all about samsung though, my first home theater system was a samsung htib and it still works (now my pc speakers that i'm listening to now (hooked up some polks now though..)). My pc monitor is samsung and my 32 inch is a samsung. But their quality control has seemed to just go down hill... Sony on the other hand seems to have less complaining on the internet, and defintely less gaming lag. if I could get a w or z5100 at 1200... done deal haha

Some how I don't think it's the TV. To be clear, I never had synching issues with Comcast, just recently with U-verse and they admit to problems they are working on where I live. Try plugging in the PS3 directly to the TV. And your cable box to the TV and compare this could be an HDMI issue (bad cables or bad processing from your receiver) or various other things.....
Flickering can be the way you have backlight or brightness set (possibly too high) or if the TV mode is set to standard or dynamic it can cause this kind of reaction depending on what you are watching. Those settings pump the brightness and can make an image "breath" visually. The "Movie" mode is much more natural and forgiving.

my movie mode is set to movie and warm 1, backlight set to 5 and i think brightness at 45... to be clear, the comcast sync is only with tnt, but most all other channels are fine through both the tv speakers and routed through the av system. It's gotta be the tv as far as blu ray sync because i never had the issue with my 32 inch, and when I disengage the video processing, the issue is gone... Worse yet, (maybe it was unclear) the syncing issue is not 100% of the time, but it is there, i'd say about 65% of the time. That, coupled with the strange start up sound and the input lag... this experiment unfortunately seems to have not worked out for me.

What are you refering to when you say disengage video processing are you talking about the auto motion plus?

I'm sorry you are having problems with the B750. I have the B750 and never had any issues since at all. The one you bought may have been a defective one that was damage during shipping when Best Buy received it. Return it and get another one.

i want to, but none left around me... it's a nice tv though that's for sure... but i think a comparable sony will be just as good. Because in all honesty, tiny differences are not noticeable when you are in the middle of black hawk down or playing call of duty haha.

That sucks there is none around you. Do you have to get it from best buy I got mine from Amazon last year with 24 months no interest and they ship to your house for free. Also when I had to switch out the TV twice they arranged return and new shipment all for free as well.

I was an owner of a 4071 and a a750 Samsung-

I actually loved the 4071 but I was pissed that they never properly resolved the firmware with the amp feature which lead to them replacing it with a a750-

I hated the A750! The motion judder was out of control, it made a Clicking sound when turning on (just like your b750), and it had the Halo effect.

After three repair visits, the agreed to give me a refund- however, instead of giving me the refund- they sent me another replacement- since the product was already on the way I foolishly accepted the exchange- and of course i hated the replacement-

so I fought with them from jan 3rd of 2009 through the end of march to get the refund- and by fought I called them every third day because they promised to call me back each time i called within 48 hours and they NEVER did.

It was by far the worst experience of my life-

I finally got the refund check in mid april and I bought a pioneer kuro 5020 plasma and i freakin love it.

I am very familiar with the samsung exchange/refund process and would be willing to answer any questions-

haha... no need to further explain. That is the exact situation I was wanting to avoid, which is why I am returning the tv within 30 days back to bbuy and i'm washing my hands of the panel. I would love a pioneer, but given my intended use and budget, just horizontally sliding to the comparable sony would be the best bet for me... just gotta wait for the price. The samsung had a nice picture, but its reliability being an issue right off the bat and that gut feeling just makes me think a ew tv altogether is the best bet... thanks to all for the responses though. Seems to me that samsung panels are very inconsistent... maybe i can squeeze in one more movie on the tv before i return it this weekend haha
