well unless anyone else has a successful tale I am going to let you know that my discs did not work. The files do appear on my Vista machine but I can't even get the PS3 to recognize my disc (I tried both leaving the disc open for additional writing and also closing it)

What settings did you use? I don't have a blu-ray burner myself, but I assume if it was burned as a data disc, it would show the folders like a dvd. Did you try pressing triangle to show all files? Maybe putting the files in a folder named VIDEO might help.

As far as I know, the PS3 won't read 'data discs' so to speak.
What you could do, is convert Xvid files to Blu-ray video/audio streams and put that on a BD-R. That would work perfectly. You'll need a BD authoring tool to do that. Otherwise, putting Xvids on a USB stick or external HDD in FAT32 format will also play fine. |

PS3 Plays DVD-R Data Discs just fine... But as far as BD-R, I don't know..
I have found it much easier to just leave files on my hard drives and stream video/music/pictures from my PC to the PS3 through PS3 Media Server instead of burning discs. And instead of having Data Disc Backups, I found it much easier to just have a 2nd HD for backup that I plug into a cartridge type system (bare hd into a slot type thing). |

This is about 50% of the reason I bought a PS3. I was on my 3rd DVD burner and it was giving me hell. Why bother with buying and burning discs when you don't have to? If streaming's not an option, an external hard drive doesn't cost quite as much as a stack of BDRs. Heck, I did just fine with a 4GB flash drive.

Do any other Blu-ray players have decent xvid support? I am kind of looking for a standalone that will do really good with divx video files. I am replacing a Phillips DVP5990/37 upconvert DVD player that does pretty great on divx from USB and burned to DVDR. That Philips DVD player does a good job of upconverting these files and also supports standard .srt subtitle files. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
