EXCLUSIVE: While (500) Days of Summer didn’t get the Best Picture nod as some expected, good things keep happening for those involved. Zooey Deschanel has just committed to star in an HBO half-hour pilot that will be based on I’m With the Band: Confessions of a Groupie, the Pamela Des Barres’ memoir of bed-hopping with musicians and movie stars in the late 1960s. Deschanel will be executive producer with her longtime manager Sarah Jackson of Seven Summits, and Tim Gibbons, an executive producer of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm. Des Barres bragged about her bedroom experiences with the likes of Mick Jagger, Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page and actor Don Johnson. But along the with excitement of rolling with famous rockers, there was also the emptiness and heartbreak of being demeaned and discarded by stars once the next pretty young thing came along. That turf was also covered by Cameron Crowe in Almost Famous. Zooey's series is supposed to be a dramedy. Hollywood Source

One of life's truisms: More Zooey Deschanel=better world.

I've loved ZD since Almost Famous and (especially) Big Trouble. She's beautiful, especially to the geeks, she's a great singer and has those blue eyes you'd walk 1,000 miles to see. However, IMO, she's not the greatest actress. She's perfect as an object of adoration, but she seems a little too septic, WASPy, limp sometimes. Don't get me wrong, I will still support her and watch any movie she's in (that isn't horror and doesn't star someone manic), I just don't know if she has the range to carry the whole load herself. I hope she does.

I'll give it a shot when it starts. I know it took me longer than most, but I'm sold on Zooey after watching 500 Days of Summer (although I did like her in Yes Man too). While I don't get HBO, there's always Hulu.

I can understand your doubts, she still hasn't been given a role that would really make her shine. But I have total faith, and oddly enough it was Almost Famous for me too, many years ago.

I'd say this is very fair. She hasn't shown range beyond being the quirky, down-to-earth girl, but like you, I have loved her in everything, especially Yes Man and 500 DOS as well as her very brief stint on Weeds, and believe she has the talent to pull it off in the future.

I love Zooey Deschanel but I also agree with the posters who have said she hasn't shown to be a great actress. Her role is the girl that the guy falls in love with instantly. Which works out because a lot of people do instantly fall in love with her.

First saw her in Elf... been in love ever since. She is the queen of the "Oh my god, what's that all about?" look. You know the one, where her eyes bug out, but won't look directly at what's going on. It's a look that says "Ooooo boy. Did that guy really just fart?"

She was going to play Janis Joplin in a biopic a long while ago but the project fell through. I absolutely love her. 500 Days of Summer was terrific and she is always good in all her projects. And it is HBO, they are just so great. Sounds like this project could be amazing if they can get some of the music and personalities behind the greatest of the 60/70s era.
