my "twin towers" monster subs:

current frequency response, flat to single digits:

some pics of my kuro calibrated by yours truly:

and for those interested, have a look around my site... it's not done, still working on it, but some good easter eggs, such as these DIY's I made:

Really looks beautiful. You should really make use of the "My Home Theater" feature and post your HT pictures.

Those towers can eat Babies alive, and those Quad sealed goodness could engulf those not worthy facing it.

You made it! Welcome to "The Club", Sherv!

Btw, are you going to change the theme to "The Four Coffins"?

Sherv, have you ran any max spl measurements of your subs, or do you have an idea of what kind of numbers you are getting?

Wow, this is an impressive room. When do we get a list of components?

Default Never mind my comment in your gallery

Left a comment in your gallery, and asked about what are those tower subs. Then found this thread. I am speechless. You are the Lord of Sub.

Love the setup, I'm going to play devils advocate here so don't take offense to anything I say. I'm just bringing it up in the spirit of continued improvement.

Do you have any bass traps? In a room that small using 4 larger subs will overpower your mids and and highs, even at relative SPL you'll likely need to do a lot of bass management. Even in my room with only 2 15" subs I've seen how great the need is to curve excess energy. The fronts you have are amazing speakers, you don't want to drowned them out.

I'd have to agree with this logic. I would think just having the b&w's would provide a lot of bass in its own right in that size of a room. Then one of those subs would do the job....4 seems like major overkill even as impressive as your setup is. Then again who am I to judge? Overkill is what I do

Your set up makes me smile...I can only imagine the perma grin you must have when you sit and watch your movies or listen to music.

Im currently in the market for an Amp for my 804's...how is that PassLabs? Is that what is running your fronts?

Hello Sherv.

I'm not sure if you can remember me, but we've exchanged posts over at AVSForum.com in the past.

Welcome to Bluray.com. I was a long time observer also, but became a member in Jan 2009 and been here ever since! I still visit the other site once or twice a week, but this is were I hang out.

If you haven't detected it yet, it's a very different atmosphere. In this particular section, it's a close knitted bunch. Very supportive and helpful without all of the bickering, pontification and postering that's prevalent over you know where!

Anyway, your room and system is still breath-taking as usual! In the next couple of days, you will undoubtedly receive high ratings and plenty of positive comments and posts!

Has anything new been added to the system in the last year?!

Again, like Fananticalism said, "It's good to see you here!"

the last set of measurements I took about 8 months ago, which was not max SPL, was ~ 120dB @ 20hz before measureable compression. I owe myself some new measurements this spring with lots of measurements coming up once a couple of bass traps are put in place, including max SPL before onset of compression, so stay tuned

oh, none taken... i'm all open to constructive criticism

as for "too much bass", there is no such thing once you are properly calibrated and level matched. The common misconception in the audio world is that the amount of bass is supposed to be within a particular size/measurement of the room.

no such thing.

some common guidelines:

a) the number of subwoofers and their positioning within the room, will exponentially increase the probability of reigning in room nodes/modes. You can have 100 subs theoretically, and if properly calibrated and level matched, will not only sound better than a single sub, but will eliminate any valleys/peaks in in-room frequency response. Here is a great read for those interested:
http://www.harman.com/EN-US/OurCompa...ions/13680.pdf

b) the larger the number of subwoofers, the less they will have to work to produce the desired output level. This keeps the extension of the drivers well within their BL vs X curve, thus greatly reducing their distortion. Theoretically, 10 subwoofers will produce cleaner, more accurate, less distorted bass, than a single sub at similar calibrated output.

c) standing wave patterns, a key element in in room frequency response, is reduced by even cross sectional location of subwoofer points. Here is a good read from this forum itself, on how nodes/modes work, and how to reduce them with location and subwoofer placement:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/subwoofers...oom-modes.html

Now obviously, the number of subs can't be infinite, as you aesthetics, logistics, and room size are real constraints, but the key point is, with quad 18" subwoofers, properly calibrated and more importantly, properly level matched, will not only produce cleaner and less distorted low frequency reproduction, but will vastly improve room nodes (as you can see from my frequency response measurements), and will reduce the need for bass traps (which again, are used to reign in modes/nodes and help flatten frequency response).

now, I'm anal retentive, and do not want to keep using filters in the signal path to the amp (on the DEQ2496), as they add decay in the time domain, thus I will be using a couple of small bass traps to give the room a more "house curve" performance.....hopefully by spring time
