Can anyone confirm with stats etc that we are beating HD-DUD?

THANKS

Blu-ray is definitely outselling HD-DVD. In Europe it's outselling HD-DVD 4 to 1 In Japan Blu is the dominating format. Also on dvdempire.com Blu-ray is at about 67% and HD-DVD is at 33%.
So BD is definitely stronger than HD-DVD. You can invest in Blu-ray technology without fears. Blu-ray is never going to go away. Now in terms of winning Blu-ray is ahead right now. It has a good chance to be the winner.

Well you have internet access, look it up yourself, and yes BD is winning. Dont go too much by what you read in forums. Do your own research, like you mentioned, visit sites and see what's selling. By they way we have a great insiders thread, comprised of Hollywood and Blu-ray insiders from Sony and some other CE, lots of good info there. Welcome to the blu, the only format for the next definition.(CE)

It will play PS1 games but not PS2 games. Sony conducted market research which suggested that was a feature that could be dropped to get the price down.

Blu-ray is not winning because of a sales advantage. Sales are not the biggest indicator of success. Granted they are a large factor in determining the long term success of the format, but they are not everything. The biggest indicator of why blu-ray is winning is that studios are starting to put out releases that take full advantage of blu-rays bandwidth, think Fox and Fantastic Four. Companies in other realms are utilizing blu-ray. Think blu-ray camcorders, blu-ray disc recorders for home video and PC drives. The technology world's acceptance of blu and the shunning of HD DVD as a media format is the biggest indicator of success.

Yes, PS1 emulation is completely software already so it will still be in there. THey specifically said PS2 backward compatability.

As for your other questions, yes my kid plays her old PS1 games on my PS3/HDTV. And yes, I have a friend with a PS3 and a standard TV (poor soul).

"WARNING : I don t blame people who play PS1 on PS3 no more people who don t have HD TV" peace to the world

I just think that PS3 requires what I'll call "a minimum environment"
I mean that to enjoy : you'll need image & audio quality + your right arm must be long enough to reach your freezer and take a good drink during your film

by the way,
how much a 1080P LCD TV cost in US??
prices in france are incredibly falling since last year give you a hitch when you think you spent nearly 2000euros 1 year ago for a TV that cost today less than 1200...

a 1080p in the US is about $1,500 to like $2,500 maybe more if its a really good tv

Actually I think in Japan Blu-ray is beating HD DVD 95% to 5%. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Though it has been suggested that there may be a firmware update by next Spring that will enable SOME PS2 backwards compatibility.
