and to think I was Monster Certified, hahahaha
go to any retailer and they will deny that site and still claim that you HAVE to have Monster to get your full money's worth out of your entertainment center. I wish I had known this before I got my Monster 1000 Component, 1000 Fiber Optic, 1000 Speaker Wire, 600 Sub Wire, Monster S-Video. O well, live and learn. Of course that was several years ago and my friend got BB discount bringing the total down to like only 30% of the retail cost, boo ya! I just returned my Monster 1000 HDMI cable and ordered myself a $12 HDMI cat. 2 cable from monoprice, ah the joys of saving money and getting the same quality if not much much better ![]() |

I like the picture of the Monster test unit that says, "See and Hear", etc. Synthesizer pioneer Wendy Carlos, who's opinion about sound is probably as good as you're going to get, says to never use your eyes when it comes to sound -- trust your ears.
In other words, Monster Cable can eat it. |

Has anyone here made their own interconnects and speaker wire? You know, many people use extension cord wire as interconnects as they have good shielding, are cheap, are found practically anywhere, and can be found in very thick sizes (10awg).

As far as HDMI cables go there are two good write-ups I like. The first is this one from Cnet. These guys are constantly plugging and unplugging cables and probably put more wear and tear on a cable than the rest of us ever will, and even they say to go with the cheap ones from monoprice, BJC, etc. because there is no consistently noticeable difference between these and the really expensive ones.
The second is this one from Audioholics, and it deals more specifically with long runs. It's a bit longer and more technical but here are a couple of quotes from their conclusions. Quote:

I have never used Monster cables because I thought they cost way too much. I did buy a 35.00 HDMI cable at walmart(Philips brand) and compared it to the same length 1.87 HDMI cable I got at Amazon. Used both cables with same equipment and same Bluray disc. Not a bit of difference. The last time I needed longer HDMI cables I bought 3, 15 footers at Amazon for a total of 35 bucks. They work great.
It's not that Monster makes bad stuff they don't. It's just not better than everyone elses as they claim and their pricing should be investigated because it is gouging in my book. Last edited by obiwopkenobi62; 06-10-2008 at 12:34 AM. Reason: spelling |

Hehe, I used to bi-amp when I had McIntosh 275s. I felt better about driving 75W into each side of my S-8s and it actually was better than bridging to get 150W. I eventually replaced the 275s with some 2102s and just bi-wire. I probably won't bi-amp again until I have the guts to mod my speakers and go active crossovers but that's years and thousands away.

The only Monster product I use are the speaker wires. I bought then 20 years ago, bulk at $1 a foot. So $20. I think it is 8 ga maybe 10. I use this on the mains connecting my Carver's to my Cornwall's. Everything else I use is 14 ga Radio Shack speaker wire. My HDMI are from Monoprice $10 each.
For interconnects I try to find a good solidly built cable (probably Radio Shack). I even use RG-6 for my 20' run to my rear sub. I have had ZERO issues with any of it. Sounds great. The thought of spending $100 or God forbid $1000 on speaker cables makes my woozy. ![]() Like someone said earlier, Monster makes good stuff and a very bad price. |
