I went to target to check out their blu ray movies and the selection was very small. It just reminded me of when I bought my first CD player and the only discs at the store were Credence Clearwater and a couple of Operas
![]() DVD was the same thing when it came out. Paid WAY too much for the player which couldn't even lip sync right and the selection of DVDs was like Blu-Ray is now, one little section with a whole bunch of VHS. My friend told me that DVD was a gimic/fad and wouldn't take off, lol. He said the same thing about Blu-Ray when it came out, so all looks good for Blu-rays future!! Its expensive and frustrating being a formats early adopter, but you get to enjoy what most people don't even know exists. When any new format was released, I was always one of the first buyers. I just love new technology. Every time, people would be amazed when they finally saw whatever it was for the first time at my house. I'm sure they passed it off as an expensive toy that few would ever own, only to see it become the norm years later. Blu-Ray right now is that new item. Its something many people have heard about, but have no idea what it is. In a few years, blu-ray will be the norm and no one will look at you funny when you tell them you own a BR player. Its just funny to think back and see the same patterns for new technology over and over. |

I also remember getting my first dual-layer DVD movie (The Stand) which didn't work in my generation 1 DVD-ROM drive... but did work in my standalone player. It actually had a red on white warning label saying it wouldn't work in older players...
At least most of the stuff you get as an early adopter is well built, even if it doesn't have fully advanced technology which will come out down the road... my dad is still using a $1200 VHS player from 24 years ago that has more features than current players (example, it bookmarks recordings and you can seek previous/next kinda like on a DVD but slower)... how long would a modern one last I wonder? ![]() |

So when do you think the 1st portable Blu-Ray player with a high definition screen will come out?
I remember one of the 1st portable DVD players with a lousy 5" screen was about $1500.00 at COMPUSA way back in 1999. |

I remember my dad's Apple II+ .... and lots of Commodore 64s at school of course.
The best (And saddest) thing was the Amiga though... Amiga 1000 in 1985 could do true multitasking with only 256 *kilobytes* of RAM.... Microsoft should have taken notes! |

Oh, the good old commodore times.
Remember them giving the C64 a facelift. The first version was a dark brown clunky version. the 2nd generation a bit slicker and beige colored. I thought Commodore was out of business? but when I was in the netherlands a couple of weeks ago for a family visit, I noticed a big commodore building (with the commodore logo). I wonder what they manufacture nowadays. |

My first portable CD player was a generic no name CD player (forgot the brand name) this player was cheaper than the sony walkmans etc. However the player was bulky (it was a square inch wider and longer than walkman, and a 16th of an inch thicker, an dback then the walkman was not as slim as today's CD walkmans), in other words it was huge. I got it with the bonethugs album creeping on the come up (the one with "It's the thuggish ruggish Bone"). Dispite the player's size, it only had track number, and no track time.
It's funny how thinks change. Now I got an Ipod 30gb, I listen to metal, and classic shred rock ( I was only in middle school when i got my first cd player, I was easily influenced by hip hop culture which was and still is popular in Hawaii), After I grew i reallized that rappers have no tallent, and metal is the music I really like. Oh but I hate alternative rock (blink 180 or any band that sounds like them), I would rather listen to old tupac (not the undead one they have now). |

I remember buying a hard drive for a dual floppy AT&T computer. it was unbelievably expensive. And I remember the war between Laserdisc and RCA's Selectavision , which was an encased vinyl record that played movies. The war was as intense as the BD/HD DVD war is today. |

I had a LD player also with an RF modulator for dolby digital etc.. I never got into LD too much, had about 10 movies. The discs were so big and having to flip them over and change them several times during a movie kinda sucked. I spent a lot of money on that thing. I bought DVD when it first came out, so didn't spend too much time with LD. I just sold my LD player last year, but it was in a box for like 10 years. I also had a vic-20, C-64, c-128, amiga, Ibm 286 and down the line. I had the atari 2600(dreamed about colecovison), sega genisis, original nintendo, super nintendo and so on.
