Default Does anyone else feel like they own too many movies?

Lately ive been feeling like i do .... i even own a handful of titles that i dont like ....

I tried going through to get rid of some (sell them on eBay) but i just couldnt bring myself to get rid of any .. and then some were gifts .. and i know i wont get anything near what i paid back so it seems like such a waste ....

Option #2 for me. I wish I hadn't bought I Am Legend, Kung Fu Panda, or Cars. I bought them when I first got into Blu-ray and was looking for good PQ titles with decent prices at Best Buy. Kung Fu Panda is a good movie but I never watch it. Cars is another good movie but I never watch it either. I Am Legend is a mediocre/bad movie.

They can buy their own

Your collection should be what you and your family enjoys. I also only buy those which I think I will watch more than once (replay value), which justifies the purchase vs a rental. I have many movies that I like, but I know I won't watch them again after the rental, unless they're on tv someday, so I don't buy those. You won't get the movies right every time either - I've traded/sold a few along the way that I knew I wasn't going to watch again. But the only movies you should own that you don't particularly like should be those picked by the wife or for the kids. Once your collection grows, don't worry - your friends and extended family are bound to find one or two that they can also enjoy with you (and then you won't get stuck watching something you don't like, which, even though you're being considerate of others, is not a time spent with others that YOU will enjoy - so what's the point, mind as well play cards instead).

That is something I don't truly get. Your movie collection should be about what you enjoy watching not what others would like to see. If there are movies they wish to see, they can buy it, rent it or catch it on a movie channel, the options are there. Unless one is running a business

For the OP, I wish I had a few mores in my collection right now but I am taking it easy, I know that quite a few of them prices will go down and I will get them later on.

I own more than I need, but I don't really have any regrets. I am just trying to avoid owning as many Blu-rays as I had DVDs, which was over 800, because it's hard to store that many movies. I am doing less blind-buying with Blu-ray to avoid that. With DVD I probably would have just gone out and bought GI Joe, which I didn't see, but I'll just rent it on Blu-ray. I've also done a good job at waiting on deals and won't pay over $20 for a Blu-ray unless it's something I really want.

I'm going to start unloading alot of them since they were worth only watching once or not at all.

just 2 reasonable opinions, i think.

i buy movies my friends/family like (but i may not necesarily like) for the same reason i buy food my friends like when they stay at my place, even if i don't eat that type of food. its just part of being a host. no, true, there is no law requiring it. i just do it. yeah, we could drive to blockbuster and pay $6 to rent a blu they like, but why not just buy it for $12 before they arrive? i've actually come to love many movies i thought i hated doing that...

IMO you don't have to buy 100 movies you don't like, just buy a couple in each genre that your collection is lacking.

I learnt my lesson with DVD. I ended up with an unwieldy collection that included movies I watched just once. I love collecting Blu Rays but from a financial standpoint it is a cash sinkhole. There are other things I like to spend my money on.

Yes I have seen this point being made a few times and I think it's a valid point. Granted I do have a very small circle of family and friend and very few of them would actualy watch a movie in my house. What I might have fail to see, I don't have a amazing HT like so many of you have here and I could see how so many people would love to watch movies with you guys, heck I wish I could see movies with some of you

Agree completely. My sister has been staying with me the past 3 weeks and in that time we've probably only watched something from my physical collection maybe twice. The rest of the time we've relied on Netflix and - gasp! - cable and network TV. And it's not because I don't have anything she might like - my stuff is as varied as they come. The concept of stocking my collection with titles for guests is just alien to me

I definitely have too many. Since changing jobs a couple of years ago my collecting has ramped up considerably, and I know I should slow down but... nah

Maybe I'm selfish...but I'm not going to sit through 2 hours of a crap movie, just for a guest. There are plenty of films out there, I'm sure theres one you and your guests can compromise on.

My house, my rules, and we watch what I want to watch. If you don't like it, go home and watch your own movies.

I still want quite a few more titles but I'm not in hurry to buy them all now, I'm patient enough to wait for good deals.

Nice thought, but among the 1200 titles I own, one of them is bound to catch their interest. If not, well it must stink to be them.
