![]() ![]() It boots up very slowly, then scrolls "slide show" in the display. Then it locks up, and will not respond to any controls. I've about had it with Samsung! Thats the third Blu-ray disc it won't play! (Pixar Short Films, POTC3) Fortunately my son got a Playstation 3 for Christmas, and that plays them fine. A POX on Samsung! |

You're in the wrong section first of all
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=6505 You'll find this thread and a few others in reference to the 1200. We're all impatiently waiting for a firmware update. BTW if you have patience, live free can be played on the 1200. Read the most current pages of the thread I provided and you'll see how it's done. |

I was able too get to watch it
![]() You have to stick in a diffrent disc in 1st let it load to the menu (can also be a dvd), eject that & then put LFoDH in. If you pause the movie & it goes the the Samsung blu screen, the movie will start from the start again & sometimes it will freeze-up & you ahev to stick the other BD/DVD to get it going agian. Have fun ![]() I did. 15 mins of screwing around with the player but I was able to watch the moive from start & freeze, restart & freeze restart to finsh ![]() Last edited by clyon; 12-28-2007 at 03:06 AM. |

How many more threads do we have to have about this player? There are too many as it is.
I have this player, and it sucks. My advice, get rid of it... maybe sell it and get what you can for it, and then get a PS3. I just got one and it's working great so far. I plan to get rid of my Samsung player soon. But there are enough threads on this topic that more don't need to exist. |

I have seen some brands of standard DVD players once and a while not able to playback about 1 or 2 DVD titles out of a 100 do to bad firmware that can not be updated. My point is at least the Samsung BLU-RAY players firmware can be updated.
As I have mentioned before this issue would become a non issue if BLU-RAY players would automatically connect to the Internet and download the latest firmware update and apply it. Of course this feature should be the default setting and disabling it would be an option for people that want to apply manual updates. All the studios before they release a movie should have a rack of every BLU-RAY and dual format standalone player every made with the latest firmware update. For example lets say Fox is about to come out with a new movie. They should place the movie into the rack of every player to make sure every BLU-RAY player loads the disc. If a certain brand or model of player has problems then the studio should notify that company that their player needs to have a firmware update to play the new movie. Fox, Disney, or Sony should ship the movie over night to the manufactory before the movie is released and the player manufactory should be able to write a firmware update before the movie is released. If all the new BLU-RAY players would connect to the Internet for firmware updates in the middle of the night and studios would notify companies of a problem 2-4 weeks in advance of release date then this would be a non issue. With auto firmware updates BD+, AACS, and movie compatibility features could be updated automatically. |

1. Yeah it would be nice for my Samsung player to connect to the internet automatically to download the latest firmware. The problem is that the firmware don't exist, so if mine did automatically connect to the internet it would be downloading squat diddly! 2. Yeah it would be great if Fox had every BD player available so they can run it through the test that you described. Problem is that AWE, LFODH, & Pixar Shorts have been out for a while now. Did someone at Samsung get lost on the way to Best Buy? |

Iv'e had no problems with mine at all. Fires any movie right up with no firmware added, 5 second load and unload time.... Oh wait. Thats right. I own the Panny BD30. Never mind. Sorry about that, but we have covered this topic with the Samsung owners a thousand times. Bottom line is this... Cut your losses on this player and get the Panny BD30. There is no other way to avoid all of the agrivation you are having and are about to have with unresponsive Samsung downloads that are always going to be "available in the next week or two" that never seems to come. Samsung is a joke and I feel really bad for you guys. It's a disgrace on Samsung's part. Is it too late for you to return it? If not, TAKE IT BACK RIGHT NOW and trade it in for a different player other than a Samsung.

Great advice, but I don't see what the problem with us Samsung owners having a discussion about this player. For some us who have invested hard earned money into our Blu Ray experience it's not easy for us just to go buy a new BD player whenever we want.

Well for those of us with multiple components integrated into a home theatre, its a royal pain not to be able to control the PS3 with an "industry standard universal remote" such as the Harmony or Monster.
Nope, Sony had to make a Bluetooth remote compatible with.....nothing. So now I need one remote for my stereo /tv / hd-dvd / satellite / PVR / DVD recorder / and theatre lighting and one remote for just the PS3 ? No thanks. |

And not only that, but not everyone will have their player constantly hooked to the internet. Having to run a separate line to the main TV viewing room could be a pain. A lot of people that I know have their computers in a separate room... usually an office or spare bedroom or something. It's not usually something that a lot of people keep in their living rooms. So, they have to disconnect their player from the main TV and move it to another room to update it anyway. That, or stretch their internet connection to the living room temporarily if it will reach. Either way, it's not exactly convenient. Quote:
Plus, the PS3 is pretty much the only player on the market right now that can be updated to be fully compliant with all future specs and standards that will be coming in the future of Blu-Ray. Anyone who currently owns a standalone player will be at least partially screwed because of this. I guess for anyone who doesn't care about extra features it's not a big deal, since the movies will likely still play via firmware updates, but IMO having to use a separate remote is a small price to pay for having the most future-proof player available. Maybe some people have obnoxiously huge disposable incomes and don't mind having to buy new players down the road just to be able to use the future specs as well as maintain their universal remote feature, but I'm sure most people don't have that luxury, so for me (and probably many others) the lack of a univeral remote feature isn't much of a sacrifice compared to what is being gained. The only reason I ever even got the BD-P1200 is because it was free. If I had been spending money for a Blu-Ray player from the get-go, it would have been the PS3. I won't need to have obnoxiously huge disposable income when it comes time to replace my BD player. By that time, they will be $200 or less, just like DVD players. Besides all that, with no kids, my wife vetoed a PS3 coming into the basement. |

Best advice to fix the Samsung 1200 is to return this unit where you bought it and exchange for a different blu-ray player. I would not buy a Samsung at all. I got a sony bdp-s300 and work great.

+ 1 Billion. This is correct. Take a temporary loss and get a new any BD player except for Samsung. Sony 300 is an excellent player for the price. I still recommend the Panny BD30, but if you are able to return it/trade it in... don't hesitate. It isn't worth the agrivation you are going thru now and the future will not be any different or better with this player. Not your fault. We pay good hard earned bucks for products that should work. Shame on Samsung.
