Exactly.

And not only that, but not everyone will have their player constantly hooked to the internet. Having to run a separate line to the main TV viewing room could be a pain. A lot of people that I know have their computers in a separate room... usually an office or spare bedroom or something. It's not usually something that a lot of people keep in their living rooms. So, they have to disconnect their player from the main TV and move it to another room to update it anyway. That, or stretch their internet connection to the living room temporarily if it will reach. Either way, it's not exactly convenient.

Nope, Sony had to make a Bluetooth remote compatible with.....nothing.

So now I need one remote for my stereo /tv / hd-dvd / satellite / PVR / DVD recorder / and theatre lighting and one remote for just the PS3 ?

No thanks.
Well, I guess I can see the frustration in that. Though speaking as someone who does not currently have a Universal remote and has a separate remote for each component, when/if I ever do get a Universal remote, going down to only two remotes will still be a big relief.

Plus, the PS3 is pretty much the only player on the market right now that can be updated to be fully compliant with all future specs and standards that will be coming in the future of Blu-Ray. Anyone who currently owns a standalone player will be at least partially screwed because of this. I guess for anyone who doesn't care about extra features it's not a big deal, since the movies will likely still play via firmware updates, but IMO having to use a separate remote is a small price to pay for having the most future-proof player available.

Maybe some people have obnoxiously huge disposable incomes and don't mind having to buy new players down the road just to be able to use the future specs as well as maintain their universal remote feature, but I'm sure most people don't have that luxury, so for me (and probably many others) the lack of a univeral remote feature isn't much of a sacrifice compared to what is being gained.

The only reason I ever even got the BD-P1200 is because it was free. If I had been spending money for a Blu-Ray player from the get-go, it would have been the PS3.
