The pq was very good(4/5) suffering only slightly from some color issues in some scenes, the aq was also good(4/5) only being held back by the age of the soundtrack not being as enveloping as modern releases. Certainly few will have issues with the quality of this transfer as many scenes have more life on blu-ray than they ever did on DVD. The transition of the boat reaching the moon was spectacular. Please take note that this movie is very dark at points and some displays have difficulty with such scenes, I moved it from my lcd to a DLP rear projection and the difference was palpable.

According to the press release and the DVD File review, it has the same features.

http://www.dvdfile.com/index.php?opt...=6627&Itemid=3

It also features an exlusive to Blu-Ray pop-up track featuring info and pictures.

Excellent! Thanks

I am gonna pick this one up asap. I was mesmerised by it when I saw it in the cinema back in the late 80's.

There didn't seem to be any high-def special features other than a trivia track. There was a standard commentary and a lengthy woe-is-me documentary into the problematic production. One thing i thought was funny was that Sean Connery was considered and agreed upon two roles(the titular Baron, and the King of the Moon) through the process and ended doing neither.

I just picked up this Terry Gilliam flick along with The Sixth Day for $21.88 each (Newbury Comics), Cal - I can't wait to check them out! I'm a big fan of Terry Gilliam and yet I do not think I have ever even seen The Adventures of Baron Munchausen before!

I watched the first hour of this BD last night (through the 'King of the Moon' scene). This has always been one of my favorite films (having owned the Criterion LD and Columbia/Sony DVD) and I can safely say that I have never seen it look so spectacular. Fans of the film should be really pleased. As a couple of the 'official' reviews have noted, there are a small handful of spots where the image is less than optimal (some fuzziness and grain), but overall it looks fantastic, especially for a near-20-year-old film. The colors are vibrant (when called for, of course--much of the opening scenes are purposely dark and drab), very deep blacks, and MUCH more detail than I've ever noticed before. Sony did a great job with this one!

I'm so glad this came out on Blu-ray. A while ago I got the bare bones dvd release that has ok video and no extras. This was the only way to get the movie. Now it looks better than ever and there are a lot more extras.

Default After all the BB discussion ...

I finally watched Munchausen earlier in the week. A definite keeper! It's amazing how natural and film-like it looks. Good detail, beautiful colours and no excessive digital scrubbing.

After Batman Begins I recommend popping this in as a reminder of how film can look on Blu.

This is the only movie (released catalog title) that I still need to purchase. I was hoping that Amazon would match the Fry's price from earlier in the week. Almost bought it from Frys online, but they wanted $7 for shipping. Looking foward to it.

So, if I've only seen it at a movie theater, I CAN'T say that it would've been fun if Gilliam had directed it after "Time Bandits", but that it got klonked on the head by the big 16-ton weight of Satirical Pretentiousness, after Gilliam decided he was a Misunderstood Genius after "Brazil"?...

...Darn. Guess I'll have to go rent it first and then say it was weird, self-indulgent and sloppy.
