lol. funny. but seriously, the onkyo brand in itself is AWESOME! easy setup and great power. as for the 605 its great and all but i recommend the 705 if you want better sound. its THX certified...nuff said. oh and beginning with the 605, u can upconvert to 720p. of course you need hdmi =) hope i helped

Got my SR605 a couple of weeks ago and love it. Great value. The higher models have some other features that would have been nice (like another HDMI port and learning remote), but for $389 total, it's tough to beat. No other receiver in that price range can do what it does.

However, just last night, the down button on the remote stopped working. Going to need to contact Onkyo support for a replacement.

I liked the Audyssey (spelling?) process to calibrate it. Pretty cool.

TX-SR605

9/10 from me.

Only complaint is the heat, I have to keep my cabinet glass door open when I use it. Never had any issues though, just like to give it some air.

Default The 804

Anyone care to rate the 804? <show of hands> Ok, I'll go first, lol. 10/10 (I'm presuming the 805 is the newer version of this receiver???)

The TX-NR905 is the BOMB.... 55lbs of heavy metal and pure audio. The Reon processor is one of the top scalers out there.

The 605 is a bargain at it's price range but I would look at the 805 if possible. It's sweet....

As I have said before and I will say it again, The Onkyo TX-SR605 got Best AV Amp of the year in the what Hi-Fi Magazine awards here in the UK, also my bother and one of my mates have one of the TX-SR605 and they are both really happy with it between us we have had Denons, Yamahas, pioneer and Marantiz AV amps but these Onkyo amps are the best we have had yet
I have the Onkyo TX-SR875B and it’s the best AV Amp I have ever owned

I THIRD that! The 805 is definitely the most bang for your buck! It has 3 HDMI inputs instead of just the 1 on the 605. And, the 805 will upconvert every input (composite, s-video, component) to 1080p through HDMI out, unlike the 605 which upconverts only to 720p!!!

Definitely consider the 805 instead!!! It will last a lot longer in your home theatre than the 605 on the sheer factor of "futureproofing".

The 805 is a big upgrade over the 605. Also the 605 can't apply processing to PCM,TrueHD, or DTSHD-MA so if they are 5.1 you will not be able to make it 7.1.

I tried 3 different 805's and they all had an audio delay (this was even after setting the the default delay to 0 ms and when I contacted them and other people have as well they always said that this was the first time they heard of it). There were many threads around the internet about this delay for the first few months they were out. There was even a poll thread, for owners of the 805, which well over half the people had noticed it and 15%-20% noticed it but did not care, but for me if its off thats a deal breaker even if it was under $300.

On the 805, I am not sure if it happens on HDMI (didn't have HDMI equipment at the time), but if you connect anything else there is a delay. The 604,605,804 and my old Onkyo TX-SV424 had no problems.

I bought the 605 as a temporary receiver until Onkyo's new models come out and assuming they fix the delay I will get the new 800 series.

I haven't noticed a delay at all on any of my 4 units connected to the 805. The only delay I experienced was with Rock Band, and I adjusted that with the in-game calibration.
