I would call A/V Science and ask what they recommend. Excellent prices, and killer customer service. www.avscience.com 1-877-823-4452
They helped me choose one not too long ago. They did not try to upsell me, but were truly interested in my needs. Their prices are VERY good! ![]() |

I thought myself to death with this very same question back in october. I ended up getting the Onkyo and I couldn't be happier. I think the build quality on the Onkyo is better and it also has Burr-Brown DACs like the Yamaha does. I have not had the Yamaha in my actual home to play with, but since I've had the Onkyo, there has not been a single incidence when I thought I should have gone with the Yamaha. I am completely satisfied with the Onkyo.

I am sort of in the same boat. I just returned the 805 because of the lip sync issue. I tried all the fixes, but it was still there...some channels worse then others. It's a shame too because the 805 is a great receiver. That being said; the RX-V1800 is being sold for $798.00 shipped @ 6ave.com when you use the a special discount coupon code.
I would go for the Yamaha. |

Definitely the Yammy. Unfortunately, the 805 has lip synch issues that can make your viewing experience completely miserable. The deal that was mentioned in the prior post can not be beat and expires 02/29/08.

I hope the Onkyo is better. I was also trying to make the same decision and ended up going with the Onkyo. I'm getting mine on 2-28 so I'll keep my fingers crossed. Buy them off Ebay. Best prices I could find. I paid $750 for mine shipped from a seller with 20,000 sales and 99% positive feedback (BNIB). If you want the Yamaha, you can find similar deals for these on Ebay as well.

My apologies for not posting the code earlier. The code for the V1800 is : AFLYAM768. (6ave) Regarding the lip synching issues on the 805 from what I have read doesn't effect all inputs or programming, but ruins your experience when it does. If there are those of you who have not had the issues with the 805, good for you. They are very nice receivers and provide many features for their price. More information on the lip synching issues can be found here:

I do not and have not had the issue. I do not even own the receiver. If you read through the posts I stated that I considered this receiver but backed away from it due to the issue. I have also provided a link to avs where the issue is discussed in great detail. While I agree with you that there are probably more folks without the issue than with it, it is still unfortunate that people like myself back away from the 805 due to the fact that they may be affected by the dreaded "lip synch issue." At any rate the point of this thread, I thought was to help our fellow poster decide which receiver to purchase. While I know you own the 805 it seems that the Yamaha is a much better deal at a similar price point if purchased using the coupon code listed previously. I would still say the Yamaha is a better receiver for the money.

It would happen on certains shows and movies. For instance; my local news on NBS was in sync, yet SNL was off. ABC: Lost suffered horrible sync issues while other shows on ABC did not. And no matter what I did in the setting to adjust it, the problem was always there. On a side note. I hooked my Sony STRDG1000 (HDMI) back up and replayed Lost and SNL through my DVR and everything was in sync. I never had an issue before. I'm not knocking this receiver. If you have one with no issues, good for you. I wish I did as well. It's a great receiver for the money. I am now looking at the Denon AVR2808CI. No reported lip sync issues at all. |

Oh, and hands down the Yamaha is a better sounding/quality receiver; however, there is also a known issue with those as well. Read the thread on AVS. It has something to do with the video being passed through. I don't think it's as wide spread as the lip sync issue though.

I think that some are affected by this lip sync issue as the A/V delay comes automatically set at 40 msec. If you turn on the Lip Sync feature and do not change the A/V delay, then the voices are still going to be off. I have my A/V delay set at 5 msec and the lip sync feature turned off as that is only for the tv anyways.

In the AVS thread there was a post on how to get rid of the sync issue to the point of "acceptable", but it was always going to be there. I tried all of the methods in the post and they did work to some degree, but when people talked fast or shouted the delay would be so much worse. To me it just wasn’t worth it. If I am going to pay that much money for a receiver I want it to work flawlessly. |
