Definitely the Yammy. Unfortunately, the 805 has lip synch issues that can make your viewing experience completely miserable. The deal that was mentioned in the prior post can not be beat and expires 02/29/08.

I hope the Onkyo is better. I was also trying to make the same decision and ended up going with the Onkyo. I'm getting mine on 2-28 so I'll keep my fingers crossed. Buy them off Ebay. Best prices I could find. I paid $750 for mine shipped from a seller with 20,000 sales and 99% positive feedback (BNIB). If you want the Yamaha, you can find similar deals for these on Ebay as well.

I have the 805 and I couldn't be happier. Never encountered any "lip syncing issues" like one or two people on this site. It's an amazing receiver you'll be vey happy with your purchase.

You should consider yourself lucky. This is a known problem and has effected more then two people. It's a shame because I wanted to keep this Receiver. Although, I'm kind of glad in away because now I can get the Yamaha RXV1800 or the Denon 2808CI for the same price.

6ave.com is a great site.

I'm kind of skeptical about this issue really. We have a large percentage of people who own this receiver with no issues and a few people who do. Could it be your source or improper setup? Short of a factory defect I just don't see how you and that other guy are the only ones with the issue.
Maybe you can give a little more information on what's happening and what your other components are?

I do not and have not had the issue. I do not even own the receiver. If you read through the posts I stated that I considered this receiver but backed away from it due to the issue. I have also provided a link to avs where the issue is discussed in great detail. While I agree with you that there are probably more folks without the issue than with it, it is still unfortunate that people like myself back away from the 805 due to the fact that they may be affected by the dreaded "lip synch issue." At any rate the point of this thread, I thought was to help our fellow poster decide which receiver to purchase. While I know you own the 805 it seems that the Yamaha is a much better deal at a similar price point if purchased using the coupon code listed previously. I would still say the Yamaha is a better receiver for the money.

Me and that other guy are not the only ones. There is a thread on AVS for this model. If I could access the site here from work I would post the link. There are numorous reports of this issue. I am not the only one that returned this receiver due to this problem.

It would happen on certains shows and movies. For instance; my local news on NBS was in sync, yet SNL was off. ABC: Lost suffered horrible sync issues while other shows on ABC did not. And no matter what I did in the setting to adjust it, the problem was always there.

On a side note. I hooked my Sony STRDG1000 (HDMI) back up and replayed Lost and SNL through my DVR and everything was in sync. I never had an issue before. I'm not knocking this receiver. If you have one with no issues, good for you. I wish I did as well. It's a great receiver for the money.

I am now looking at the Denon AVR2808CI. No reported lip sync issues at all.

No it hasn't, not on mine

The Onkyo is a fantastic piece of equipment, it weighs a ton and it's MASSIVE! I couldn't be happier, the sound it produces is very impressive
