HD-DVD at Best Buy

It looks like Best Buy (at least in NYC) has a HD-DVD setup of its own. I went to pick up a monster HDMI cable and Decent on blu-ray when I was heart-broken and saw the HD-DVD (new smaller Toshiba A1 player) setup across from the Blu-ray display.

At least the A1 player is there.

I think this may be the most depressing part of this thread, especially when you go to places like www.monoprice.com or www.ramelectronics.net and see what quality HDMI cables cost there, in contrast.

The problem with the A1 is that it is being sold as "it is as good as a BD player, but half the price"... I hope the A2 comes to stores soon...

Does anyone know if the Monoprice HDMI cables are compliant with HDMI 1.3 specs?

Not everybody wants generic cables. Yes I know that monster HDMI cables provide no better picture than the cheaper monoprice, etc. However I like my cables to all match and look asthetically pleasing when i'm fishing around behind my setup. Not to mention I've never had a problem with a monster cable breaking, coroding, or giving any weird picture/sound anamolies like i've had with radio shack premium cables & AR.

Are monoprice cables good? I'm sure they probably are....but you can't continually knock people for buying something they want. I'm sure if you are on this board you have half a clue about hometheatre and know your paying for placebo & peice of mind more than an actual superior Picture Quality.

Monster make good cables, but aesthetic matching is not more important to me than a $150 difference in cable when the performance is the same.

I'd rather buy some tubing and seal ALL my cables away so that when someone looks they see two tubes, one for power cables and one for everything else.

Odd, my Best Buy actually removed the A2 display and replaced it and the TV with a sony HTIB system and another TV. Couldn't find the A2 displayed anywhere.

It actually might be because the A2 is completely sold out. Each time I go into the Best Buys in my area I check out how many players are available of each. HD DVD players seem always sold out. I asked the sales clerk, and he said we just got some in on Tuesday, but they are gone. Meanwhile, BD always has a few in stock.

My Best Buy now has the A2 in, so there is an HD DVD player once again under the HD DVD sign instead of the Samsung upconverting DVD player that was there until last week.
