Default Do you still buy DVD?

Do you? I only get cartoons which I know will probably never make it to blu, but I havn't actually bought a DVD since last year so I was wondering if people actually buy the treacherous things anymore (At least on here)

Every once in awhile I'll pick one up.

I still rent them from Block Buster when they don't carry the blu-ray edition.

I haven't lately, but I still watch the ones I have! I'm not one of those snobs that thinks Blu-ray is the end-all to everything in movie-watching. I love watching my Braveheart and Gladiator movies on DVD. Soon I'll have them on Blu-ray though!

Some of my DVD's will take years before they get a Blu-ray treatment, so I'm not about to deny myself watching some faves.

Unfortunately yes. But not much, my biggest purchase this year was during the Barnes and Noble Criterion Collection sale. I bought about 29 DVDs.

Oh, I'll pick up the Afterdark Horrorfest Movies every year too, though hopefully they'll go Blu next year like Ghosthouse is doing this year.

Do people have to keep making these threads? If its the Dark Knight no ones going to get the dvd, but yes a cartoon, obscure movie or a concert dvd that isnt blu its differant...

I recently bough a deleted (UK) DVD title called "Invasion Earth: The Aliens Are Here" just because I know it will never be on blu-ray as it's too crap and no one has really heard of it anyway. I do plan on getting the Power Rangers series on DVD among some UK TV programmes that won't be going on blu-ray as they don't need that treatment.

I still rent them quite a bit, but the last ones i bought were "Inland Empire," since who knows if that will ever make it to bluray and i bought "Melvins/Fantomas Live DVD" and "Kaada/Patton Live DVD" since i know those probably won't make the BD jump, but those were almost 2 years ago.

I do. I'm more into Blu-Rays for the blockbuster movies where awesome PQ and AQ really adds something extra to the movie (I know it adds to every movie, but I'm talking about films driven by awesome visuals and sound such as 'Transformers', compared to something like 'The Godfather' where the audio/visual takes second place to the story and acting). However, as I only have a 32" Bravia and no-sound system I'm at the current stage where I'm more than happy to continue buying and watching DVDs.

Purchased 'Lost in Translation' this week for £4.99. It's not even available on Blu-Ray, and if it was buying the DVD would be around £10 less. Films like this were you don't need HD-quality images or awesome sound to enjoy what the film is all about.

In summary: yes! (Hope you can all see through my blabbering to understand my point!).

Yes I agree. This is at LEAST The 3rd thread on this exact same topic. USE the SEARCH function. There is no need for this thread. This is a waist of server space. And thread space.

That's me! I bought Doctor Who Season 3 & 4 on DVD. I'd have bought them on blu-ray if they existed.

No, no and no. I don't even look at my DVDs anymore (over 300).
The difference is so huge that I just can't go back.

True you don't look at SD anymore. The only DVD I'm considering is The Simpsons season 13.

Pretty much only buy regular DVDs when they're like 5 bucks and theres no blu available. Last ones I bought was The Killing Fields and Matchstick Men. Nice to add to the collection, and its not that bad watching on the 32" in my bedroom. Can't watch them on the 52 anymore

99.9% is blu ray purchases only. The other .01% purchases is DVD. Although renting it is so far 100% DVDS 0% blus, unless Netflix have no wait time, and a larger selections of blu ray compare to DVDs.
