Hi,
I updated my FW yesterday on my 60Gb PS3 and since then I've had problems with audio. I don't see lots of other people lighting up the forums with audio trouble so I don't think the new FW is the cause. I bought the system from Walmart in Nov06 and bought a 3 year warranty so I still have half the warranty left. But,.. I notice Walmart doesn't seem to carry the 80Gb systems..... I don't know what the walmart warranty will do for me. They said I'll be able to just bring it back and take another off the shelf. But,.. assuming that's true, I still don't know what to do. 1) Get a 40GB and ask for the difference in cash back 2) Wait for some new bundle of 80GB with a cool game or something and also perhaps get some cash back 3) Just wait for the next FW and see if the problem goes away ...? I can use toslink audio and then there is no problem so I could wait it out for a while yet. I just don't know what to do??????? Seems like if I wait till the warranty is almost up I should be able to get more cash back or a better system. -Brian |

try calling sony.
they can either help you fix the problem or replace/repair the unit. Walmart will not give you a 60GB anymore, you would have to go with the 40 till the 80 are out again. But it looks like you need to call Sony first and see what they say. It might be something they can fix over the phone... |

Hi,
Sorry,.. nevermind. I've been spending hours trying to figure this out it's like torture. I think I've finally verified the problem is with my AVR and not the PS3. It wasn't easy to determine because my PS3 is my only source and Toslink was working correctly and also the problem would come about when things warmed up. But,.. I just managed to get it to go away by choosing stereo playback on the AVR so it's something in the AVR. (How could I have ever doubted my trusty PS3? ) -Brian |

i downloaded an update last fall. and lost my audio on gameplay. I preformed a system restore (save all the files you want to keep on something just for safety reasons).
Redownloaded the new update and haven't had a problem since. I run a 60gb too so you might want to try that. I also didn't save any files before doing it, and I didn't lose any but you never know. It's worth a shot... |

Wimetime,
I found an older backup that I had not erased and did a system restore and then restored the backed up data. It seems to have worked! I don't know why because it doesn't roll back the FW and I don't imagine the PS3's ability to play a Blu Ray would be much affected by a hard drive problem. I'm certain I don't know where the problem came from or where it went... Oh wait.. nevermind.. It's back. This thing is going to drive me nutz. -Brian |
