Default PS3 Trouble

I have the Fat PS3 and When I try to hook it up to my Samsung t.v HDMI cable and Audio cable no audio will play and the picture will be black any ideas on how to hook this up?

The audio probably just needs to be set to HDMI in the settings. But you should get video if the connection is good and everything is working. If I'm not mistaken the PS3 should auto detect the video and at least get you in with the basic settings.

I'd first do the obvious and check the HDMI cable connection and if you have another cable try it.

After that I'd trying powering off the PS3 from the back switch and then powering it back on. I've had mine freak out once or twice and had to do that.

Then if still no luck try using the composite cables to make sure you are at least getting some type of output.

Alright I got the HDMI cable but I have a optical digital cable how can i get it to come out of the speakers AND the television?

1. Why would you want to do that?
2. I'm not sure, but I don't think the fat PS3 CAN. That might be a slim-only option.

*edit* Wait, that might be wrong. Try checking in the GUI audio section and see if there's a selection for BOTH.
