Talking The Century PS3 Hard Drive: 750GB RAID Setup

The Century PS3 Hard Drive: 750GB RAID Setup

Quote:
Should you max out the 20GB or 60GB of your PS3 you might want to make plans to visit the Akihabara district of Tokyo. There you'll find the Century external hard drive, complete with 750GB of storage space for your overpriced video game console. (Or you could just swap in a regular 160GB hard drive, I suppose.) The Century can be set up as either RAID 0 or RAID 1, with the PS3 recognizing 698GB at any one time. This looks like just enough space to dump more than a handful of Blu-ray movies. Not that we advocate that, mind you.

I'd rather have a replacement internal drive. On that, is it true that if you replace your internal drive you can lose the ability to playback certain files - because the codecs are on the original drive, not in the firmware?

Not true. Replacing a drive can be done out of the box without turning the PS3 on. All of the media playback capability resides in the PS3's OS, not on the included HDD.

While a 7-pin male-to-female pin would work, the cable pictured would work great too. It would give a stronger lock on the connection inside the PS3. I'm certain more people will go for this external drive than a USB linked one.
