Default How to transfer home movies to hard disk?

I have around 15 home movies on DVD that I'd like to back up on my PC.

I'm looking for the quickest, simplest way to back up these movies with no loss of quality.

Preferably with free software.

Any ideas?

DVD Decrypter. There's no official site anymore - they were sued - but various sites have hosted it. It's simple to use. You must have at minimum 9GB free space in your HDD to do the archiving and use dual-layered DVD+R/-Rs if you are backing up dual-layered DVDs.

These are only 30m movies.

Is there no video equivalent to MP3, i.e. insert DVD, rip to hard disk, then view if you so wish.

Handbrake http://handbrake.fr/ Rip the Movie to whatever you want, TS folder, MP4 (for PS3) Divx. Very recommended, i managed to rip my entire Friends collection after i though they had been scratched to death.

And its free.

They are encrypted so its just as simple as a drag and drop procedure...no program needed. Anything other than that you are ripping home movies
