Default Projector displays static/noise when resolution changes on PS3

I wasn't really sure where to put this, but since the problem seems to ultimately be on my display (projector), I'll start here.

I have a Mitsubishi HC4900 projector, Pioneer Elite receiver, and a PS3. All are connected via HDMI. Sometimes, when switching between resolutions on the PS3 (say going from a 1080p movie back to a 720p dashboard, etc) the screen goes static (white noise) and is stuck like that until I switch the input back and forth on my receiver. I assume it was some sort of handshaking HDMI issue, but I'm not sure. I was curious if anyone else here has experienced anything like this.

I did replace the HDMI cord from my PS3 to the receiver and that didn't help.

It sounds like a handshaking issue. Some devices just don't play well together over HDMI until a definite connection is established.
