Default HDMI/Component cables changing brightness?

Can the brightness change when switching between HDMI and Component cables? I have some older, but high quality, Monster components and Blue Jeans HDMI hooked up to my Pio 1150HD. When I switch between the 2 on the same source, the brightness of the picture dramatically changes. When going through component, I have to up the contrast by at least 10 to get it even close to the HDMI picture.

I think i have seen a setting on my tv for HDMI black or something similar. I think this helps improve contrast. If you have something like this then it would only apply when using HDMI, and might be why you would see a difference between HDMI and component. You are also talking digital (hdmi) compared to analog (component) so there will be some differences in quality. Although if it's drastic i would have to say there is some setting on your player or tv or receiver that only applies to hdmi or component but not both.

HDMI and Component have totally different picture characteristics. It is just like adjusting your settings between DVD and Blu-ray, it is totally different. So you will have to calibrate for component and hdmi differently. When I have component on, I need more color and picture, but my brightness is relatively the same.

I have to move my color by 8-9 notches from HDMI to Component. This is even true for other sources, my Xbox, Ps3, and DTV all use different settings. I played around between HdmI and component for awhile, and yes there is a huge difference.

Also if your TV might have Full/Limited HDMI which might adjust the contrast or brightness or your blu-ray player uses this setting I can't think of off the top of my head. But it is a setting only used for blu-ray with HDMI and wouldn't work for component.
