Default Component cables

If I connect a blu-ray player with component cables to a 1080i RPTV(or 768p LCD), will I still get blu-ray quality video? I understand Audio would have to be optical or coax to get Dolby or DTS sound.

I would guess "no." Can't you use HDMI?

The 1080I tv does not have HDMI. I have the blu-ray player connected to my LCD by HDMI. I might move the blu-ray to the rptv because it is a 48 inch screen compared to the 32 inch screen on the LCD.

BTW, I am a UGA fan too.

You'll notice a nice difference in video quality over composite cables or s-video. But you'll be getting 1080i video instead of the superior 1080p that Blu-ray offers.

For sound you'll be getting 2 channel lossless if you use Optical or Digital Coax(or the regular 5.1 dolby digital which isnt lossless). HDMI offers up to 8 channels lossless.

Yes for both.

I would use a DVI/hdmi adapter and use the hdmi out on your player and the DVI input on you RPTV.
1080i or 720p will still give a nice picture if calibrated correctly.

You will still be getting great PQ even with component cables (I don't know why people act like component cables don't carry HiDef Signals...) & 1080i Res.

Correct.
720p/1080i = HD

And 720p/1080i is not something that is being obsoleted.
New models of Plasmas and LCD's @ 720p/1080i are still manufactured and sold.

My first 720p/1080i plasma looked great with blu-ray and displayed a noticable PQ improvement over DVD using HDMI or component.

True. I don't know if the OP is using the DVI input or not, but Component will still give great PQ. I was throwing another option into the mix.

I have a second Pioneer Blu-ray player connected to a 400lb legacy 65" Sony XBR that only has component inputs, as it was made before the advent of HDMI. I have audio connected via analog outputs into the 7.1 inputs into the receiver so I can receive lossless sound. Just waiting for Pioneer firmware upgrade whereby I can receive DTS-HD MA audio. Dolby TrueHD sounds good though, but can't wait for DTS-HD MA.

The picture is 1080i and having this set professionally calibrated a while back has kept the picture looking good. The picture looks a little better than what I receive via DirecTV on their HD channels but it doesn't quite compare to the 1080p picture on my newer DLP set but the black levels are great.

I tried that in the past and could never get a video signal. It wasn't worth trying to get that fixed. We get a great picture when watching HD channels through our STB.
