Hey guys. Just a question here. I currently am using a "Sony Wega 42" 3LCD HDTV. Got it a while ago. I am currently using my PS3 has a Blue Ray player, but I haven't used any Blue Ray discs on it..YET. I've heard people talking about having an HDCP compliant monitor/TV. I've searched around and still don't know if my TV is HDCP enabled. Now, I am using an HDMI cable with my PS3 and using it at 1080i (since its only 42 inches, and its not 1080p compatible). Is it still possible for me to view Blue Ray discs at 1080i? I am using HDMI, but i'm not sure if I have an HDCP tv. Thanks.

If your using a PS3 and have it set for 1080I then your display is HDCP complaint. You would be getting a black picture or error message if your display did not have HDCP when using a device that required HDCP.
Most BLU-RAY movies are encoded at 1080P/24. Your PS3 will down convert the picture to 1080I. Make sure you set the PS3 to 1080I resolution. The PS3 and other BLU-RAY players outputs 480I, 480P, 720P, 1080I, and 1080P. |

thank you for the reply.
Now that i've gotten my blue ray experience secured. Will downgrading it to 1080i make the quality worse? Will i lose the purpose of what Blue Ray is supposed to be watched in? Because I don't want to go get another HDTV that supports 1080p just to watch Blue Ray discs. I just want to get the just of the HD. |

For 1080i Blu-rays (like live concerts), the PS3 will pass the signal untampered
For 1080p Blu-rays (like movies) the PS3 will split the progressive frame into two interlaced fields (and add the 3:2 pulldown)* to send the 60i signal It's up to your TV to deinterlace this signals into your LCDs native panel. So the quality you get will depend on your TV's deinterlacer. There's a sticky about this somewhere. *3:2 has to be added even for a display that accepts 1080p if it only does 60Hz but not 24p |
