Ok, I searched the forums long and hard and found nothing quite like this.
Yes, I am having an HDCP problem. Bluray advisor shows everything is fine except my connection (digital without HDCP). Here's the problem, the cable I have (DVI to HDMI) is labled as HDCP compliant. I googled around, and sure enough, single channel DVI to HDMI cables should be fine. My receiver is also compliant (and to double check, I went straight to the TV and still got the error). Of course power dvd will not play anything. So, as it stands, I have an HDCP compliant drive, video card, operating system, cable, receiver, and TV... and I can't play blu ray movies. "The program in which we do not speak" works, but I paid all this money for a new system, and I'd rather not have to use it (though I have to say, I refuse to fill bad for any industry that makes their customers jump through flaming hoops). Any suggestions? Is there anything else which would cause the video connection light to flare red. Thanks! John PS: I have turned dual monitor mode off as well, so none of that. ![]() |

Ahh, sorry about that.
Drive: LG Blu-ray burner/HD-DVD drive combo (GGW-H20) OS: Vista Ultimate x64 Video Card: Nvidia 7950 GX2 (Drivers - 178.24, there are more recent, but I have had problems with them) Cable: DVI to HDMI single link (I can give a link to the product page if needed) Receiver: Sony STR-DG910 (HDMI in -> HDMI out) TV: Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 Power DVD 7.3 Ultra with the most recent patch. Any suggestions? Thanks, John |

Sony receivers have been notorious to have issues when using an HDMI-DVI cable.
from the Sony 920 user manul (pg.26): Quote:
But you said you connected directly to the TV (no receiver) and still had the problem? Last edited by crackinhedz; 05-12-2009 at 10:56 PM. |

Correct. I connected it directly to the TV and the advisor still flagged the connection, and power DVD gave the "Failed to enable HDCP" error.

nah, you're golden wth those cables.
![]() ...unless its just a bad cable. If that is the case, they have lifetime warranty, they will send you a new one. But I don't think its the cable...HTPC's can be a tricky beast. Any number of issues can cause problems. Trick is to find the weak link. I wish I could help you out more on the PC end...but im not advanced with computers. I know enough...but at the same time, not enough. ![]() |

I purchased two of these cables and the other one does not work as well. Thinking it may be a cable design problem, I snatched a DVI cable with an HDMI adapter stuck on the end from my brother, and that gave the same problem.
The thing that puzzles me is that it flags the connection type. I did just notice another little gem, not sure if that will help though: It lists my system memory as green, but only registers 4096MB (I have 12gb). Would this have to do with the 32-bit RAM limitations (I always thought that was an OS problem only)? Thanks for the suggestions. I really hope they remove this crap soon, it only hurts the consumers (seeing as how it is just as easy to rip blu-ray disks as it is to rip DVDs). If the conscience doesn't stop someone, HDCP doesn't stand a chance. ![]() |

Sorry, I do have Vista x64. I meant the advisor program being 32 bit, could that limit the amount of RAM it sees (I don't see how it could, but who knows).
And yes. The TV is the only output. I turned dual monitor mode off (back to dual-GPU setting) and only have the TV plugged in. |

Yep. The PC works fine. Blu-ray just crashes out with the HDCP error when I try playing blu-ray. (normal DVD's work fine)

1920x1080.
Just popped it down to 1600x900 and no change. You getting frustrated too? Heheh, thanks again for the help. I really appreciate it. John |

Better watch out. If they make it to the finals and play the Lakers... they may just get elbowed in the throat!

Try having only a single monitor physically connected. Just turning off the dual monitor support may not be enough.
The reason I say this is that somewhere between the Video output and the TV input put it is flagging the connection. We assume the cord is not the issue. So it is either on the Video card end (too many connections, settings etc) or on the TV end (settings/resolution etc.) Make sure the resolution being sent by the Video card is the same resolution to be displayed on the TV. Does your PC recognize your TV as a valid monitor or just as a generic monitor type? |

Hello,
The other cable was unplugged. As for the TV resolutions, they were all matched at 1920x1080p. The monitor thing is an interesting point. Nvidia's control panel recognizes both my TV and receiver by name when connected. But regardless of how I hook things up, windows only recognizes Generic PnP monitor. Any suggestion on how to fix this? Thanks, John |
